the only element of this that doesn't sit right with me is with some of his doubled vocals, one track is more polished and the other is more raw and slightly out of tune. the dissonance (pun intended) is slightly jarring at times, but it's not the end of the world.
Reading this made me realize I'm maybe supposed to be listening to this album much louder than I was.
I kinda love how fuzzy this is compared to his other very clean sounding records. Based on what he's said recently I think there was intent behind the mix here. Sounds fantastic in my car and on my over ears.
Well this far exceeded my expectations. Been on repeat all day. Haven’t cared for anything after Able Bodies, so I’m pleasantly surprised!
I remember being disappointed with EFBN when it came out. It grew on my quickly and might be my favorite from him now, but I think this is closer to the record I was wanting back then
this is phenomenal. also don’t think his vocals are too buried or washed out at all. it’s very clearly a shoegaze album and it’s great.
At the time I definitely just wanted Absent Sounds pt 2, but yeah it won me over after a few months. It’s a ridiculously good record I love that this one brings back the energy of his first two records while still very much being a headphones album like the latter two
Yeah, I love EFBN, that still might be my favorite. I remember liking Dimly Lit but not loving it because it was just too long. I love the length here. It doesn't feel too short or like any of the songs are incomplete, and doesn't overstay its welcome so it keeps me wanting more.
honestly (almost) every release he's made (under any moniker) has been fantastic (although i've only spun The Man With Wooden Legs once and it was... something). this is also inclusive of EFBN Tapes, which feels like a true, essential companion piece to the main album.
i'll have to give this record another spin at some point. wasn't bad per se, just that Able Bodies onward did this sound better.
I had no idea this was out already, totally crept up on me. I'll have to give it a good listen. From what I've heard so far, it seems to be more everything feels better and less dimly lit. Your Heartbeat Against Mine is easily my favorite FIL song with blank tapes just behind that so we'll see how this album fits in their discography after a few good spins. Absent sounds has some great songs, but I really enjoy where they went after that as it's more unique, moody and just vibes with me more with all the ambient and electronic elements that got added. I'm bummed they haven't toured in a minute and that their show in my city is the same day as Knocked loose meaning I'm unable to go.
