i like it more than absent sounds but less than able bodies i rarely go back to anything other than that one which is one of my favorites ever at this point which is pretty odd stylistically for me, hah
I definitely feel that argument is a valid one that I can attribute to myself a lot. Sometimes it works for bands, other times I feel like they peter out because their songwriting chops aren't strong enough to support the lack of sonic bombardment. I thought that was the case with Absent Sounds. ETFBN won men back over, and subsequently changed how I felt about Absent Sounds.
i think generally the natural progression fits about how i feel about the band, and pretty often softer just natural lends itself to more potential diversity to build arrangements and change things up, plus generally louder shouty music is sort of associated with more angsty feelings and as bands grow up those change. but in this case i like the songwriting better earlier on, hah
I'm listening to Able Bodies now and I honestly think I like all their stuff about equally now, it's a toss up.
I still don't like this as much as Able Bodies or Absent Sounds, some of this album is too ambient for me and it doesn't hold my attention like the others do.
I got into this significantly less than the last 2 albums. Hoping some spring time weather and some long drives down the coast change that. Might go see them with B+C on that current run.
I think this is his best record instrumentally and definitely from a production standpoint, but Absent Sounds just resonates with me so much more still. Way more up my alley, sonically.
I like their newer stuff too but I really liked the sound of their first two albums and I return to them more often
Heard Able Bodies today.. I need a new album. Considering his two year turnout we should be getting one, hopefully.
My love for Absent Sounds makes it difficult for me to like this album as a whole. Still think there are some great songs on here and it was a natural evolution of their sound.
