i didnt get to talk to them but fran signed my buddys cd "2000-2025" and uhhh hopefully that doesnt mean what im worried it might absolutely insane show though, fran sounds unhinged as ever
Love me some FATA. I would agree that each album got a little better. Still remember going to the Abandon Your Friends record release show. Saw they have been doing reunion shows, but wasnt worth the 2 hour treck for me. I will say that Fran's side project from like 2005 "Biology" is my favorite thing he ever did. Such a great record. Mellow, but amazing. If you like Kansas City 90210, then you would dig it. Got to see Biology open for Say Anything 2 decades ago. They played, I saw the 20 minute set, and left.
Oh theres a FATA thread, sweet. Saw this randomly on YouTube, one of the reunion shows they did and it's typical hate5six pristine quality. Biology was awesome, and his other side band Warship was just as good. Heavier than Biology but still fun stuff.
He USED to be the drummer. I forget when he switched from drummer/co-vocalist to just vocalist but I can imagine doing drums AND singing AND screaming wore him out.
He sounds great doing the pre-Holding A Wolf By The Ears songs. Like, it's cool that they brought out a second vocalist for the second half of the show but he was nailing After Dinner Payback all on his own
Forreal, he was doing a GREAT job doing both! I hadn't even heard of the second vocalist Nick, but I liked how he sounded....he had a growl that was different than Fran's and definitely more like Ben's. I definitely prefer Fran doing both but the Nick guy was cool too. I found out he also has a band called Godseyes and it's not too bad. Still hope FATA put out new music....Fran sounds great, he's still got it.
oh wow i didnt know rob was the only other guy in warship thats sick lol its like a fata lite album in a way if you think about it finally spinning it and its pretty dope, fran particularly sounds so fucking good
Right?! Like, Biology got hype when it released (deservedly so) but it really felt like when Warship released it went unnoticed and super under the radar. Love that album.
Speaking of Biology, what a phenomenal record. Really wish they released it for like the 20th anniversary on vinyl. Probably wouldn't sell well. So happy I got to see them perform the album live.
Extremely jealous you got to see them perform they live! And yeah, it really is a shame it hasn't been pressed on vinyl, I actually do think it would be successful if they did a smaller print. Like, 500 or even 300 if they had concerns about selling all of them. I really do think Biology, while niche, had a loyal following and I do think they'd have no problem getting people to buy it.
yea I saw them open for Say Anthing. Drove an hour to watch a 20 minute Biology set and left. Didnt stay for SA. LOL
finally wrapped up my discog collection for the boys w too bad youre beautiful and the extra breathing room really benefits the insane scope of these songs. such a wild debut, up with opposite december as far as the best records any of these bands ever kicked off with
yeah damn the biology album has sunk its teeth deep into me, as someone who loves the alt rocky songs on abandon your friends this project is phenomenal. really makes me wish fran would do vocals for a project again, whether fata or something else entirely. love him
I know this album is their least well regarded but this song came up on my shuffle while driving and it's still really fun Also I guess sorry for the bump for giving potential false hope in news of them!
sugar wolf has one of the best hooks in their whole discog. i love that album even if i do agree its probably their worst, still super sick stuff
I have a soft spot for that album too and have deep feelings for streamline. There actually was an episode of 100 words or less with Josh Newton, where they talked about that album a bit. It’s a small part of an episode mostly about Shiner, but he briefly mentions that when he joined the band right before they recorded the album he had to write quite a bit of it and that’s why it sounded so different. Really cool to get that new perspective on such an infamous sonic shift (outside of the more well knows plot points)
