I'm sure most people posting in here have listened to their live album (Liver! Lung! Fr!), but if not, it's damn good and deserves your time.
I really like this album and think it stands shoulder to shoulder with Winter and PV. MOF is still the champ but I doubt they'll ever top it, but I don't expect them to that album is a special once in a lifetime album. Sing The Grays is quite decent as well, put it on shuffle with the rest of the catalog and those songs hold their own but as an album it's kind of a drag. Throw in the EPs and slew of bonus tracks and you've got one of the finest discographies in indie rock
I think MOF is easily their best and I like WOMD a bit more than PV which I like a lot more than this or STG. I still need to listen to most of their bonus bits.
Someone asked me the other day what my favorite song of 2016 was... definitely "I Wish I was Sober." Such a good tune.
Been thinking about this band lately, looks like they're going to work on the next album. And on that note, I think Chris Walla would be a really neat producer for them to work with.
You know who I think would be amazing... I'd recommend this producer for any of my favorite artists but Dangermouse just has an amazing way of taking a band out of their comfort zone and just adds new elements to make them sound fresh. Pedestrian verse was my favorite album of 2013 and although there was some good stuff on APOAPA, it ended up on my most disappointed list.
This album hasn't resonated with me at all and has borderline killed my interest in Frightened Rabbit. A few good tunes, but this band needs to stretch its wings somehow for their next album.
If you read the interviews prior to the release you can tell Scott wasn't sure the direction to go with this album and just wasn't ready to jump in with both feet. I also think Dessner was the wrong choice as a producer because I feel FR really shine when they get loud and have huge hooks and The National are not really known for that. Again, I think Dangermouse could elevate this band to a new level & possibly get them a few big hits on their next album.
It is extreme, and I'll still check out their next album, but I'm not as emotionally invested as say when Pedestrian Verse came out. They do bright, even moderately upbeat stuff a lot better than they seem to realize ("Head Rolls Off", "The Twist", "The Oil Slick", "Woke Up Hurting") and I'm just not sure I can do another album with 8+ tracks of generic mope.
Yeah when they do it right like "Poke" or "Not Miserable" it's phenomenal, there was just none of that here
Hahahaha poor Tristan. If u see this we love u bud Idk I like the slower indie style on this. The bonus tracks are quite good also. This album definitely feels like it was influenced heavily by Dessner so I guess that's why I enjoy it so much. Honestly aside from their first record they're all pretty spectacular
Rank Time!! 1. Pedestrian Verse 2. Midnight Organ Fight 3. Winter of Mixed Drinks 4. Painting of A Panic Attack 5. Sing The Greys
1. Pedestrian Verse 2. Painting of a Panic Attack 3. Winter of Mixed Drinks 4. Midnight Organ Fight 5. Sing the Greys I absolutely adore 1-4 though, it's close and changes occasionally.
