I audibly said 'fuck' when I saw this news. So, so sad. A slightly unrelated note, but the band was meant to be playing 2000 trees in July (subheadlining, even) and they posted nothing about this or Scott being missing. Feels a little scummy if they were doing this for commercial reasons.
To be fair, I don't think 2000 Trees aren't saying anything for commercial reasons - probably in the same position as most of the bands commitments in a wait and see type mode. It would've been nice for them to at least acknowledge it though. That little part of me hopes it isn't him but I think it's a matter of time.
I imagine they didn't say anything because they simply didn't have anything to add. I suspect they will now though.
Apparently the body hasn't been identified yet. Suspect we will find out in a few hours. I do think all signs point to a very sad conclusion though.
I was handling this okay until I read this when walking to work this morning. I'm really sad about it. He felt like a friend because of his manner and humour at shows and in his music, despite not knowing him personally.
Yeah I guess I was more coming at it from an angle of one of the biggest bands on their lineup is in a dire situation and it would make sense to use their reach to a community that would be invested in what they had to say saying something. It seemed like a no-brainer to post something when they're still tweeting anyway, feels like it was choosing not to address the elephant in the room. Whether this body is Scott or not, someone's loved one has died and that's an awful situation. I feel like hoping it isn't Scott kinda misses that point (though I appreciate those saying that are coming at this innocently and optimistically and aren't trying to be malicious).
I do wonder how they will handle this. Do they replace them at 2k or do they just leave their slot open out of respect? It's gonna be a weird feeling there this year, either way.
I'm trying to think how other festivals have handled this in the past... I think it may be a case that they'll have a smaller slot booked in to pay tribute but ultimately replace them in the lineup. Given that they were a big pull to the festival it's a difficult one to call.
I am yeah, didn't intend that post to come off too dramatic! Feel awful for Scott and his family. Hope you're doing okay too!
RIP Scott. Thank you for letting me interview you in 2012, thank you for the 5 Frightened Rabbit albums, thank you for the solo record and thank you for the Mastersystem record. Thank you for London 16/3/18 and so many other shows. Thank you for making those tiny changes to earth.
Their official twitter liked a tweet from a friend who had paid a tribute to Scott giving thoughts to his family. Would imagine they'll have to make a statement - which is the last thing on their mind - to acknowledge this and that all commitments are off. Their inaugural festival in Glasgow was in 3weeks.
