Yeah aside from being extremely funny, I was surprised at how much it absolutely does work on a more serious thematic level. He’s such a tragic character trying very earnestly to find connection with others but only ever gets in his own way. It kinda reminded me of Punch Drunk Love in how they took his already well-known “character” comedic persona and followed through the implications of what would happen to that kind of person in a more grounded “real” world

Going to a bbq of people I mostly don’t know tomorrow and just thinking “You’re smart, you have a good job, there’s nothing to be nervous about you’re a frickin prince”

Extremely funny but only in one scene, which is par for the course with him.

Yeah this was great. Definitely felt like a long ITYSL sketch at times but also works as a complete film.

Thought this was fine. Kinda funny. Way too similar to ITYSL to the point that I thought it was kind of distracting somehow. Meh.

Now that some time has passed, this is probably actually closer to my own feelings as well although I do plan on rewatching once it’s out.

Not to take away from the film but there are at least 2 or 3 gags that are just spins on ITYSL jokes.

Just saw this and couldn’t stop laughing,my partner only got uncomfortable and had to look away just a couple of times.

biggest laugh was the whole toad scene.

One of my complaints is that I didn’t find the dynamic between the wife and the son funny, just weird and uncomfortable, and not in an enjoyable way. I could’ve just been missing something though.

I chalked it up to being another device to alienate Craig but i do agree it was weird for no reason haha

They’re kissing on the mouth now?

I mean, pretty much everything in this exists in a heightened reality. There’s no way Kate Mara’s character would marry an idiot like Craig. That makes as much sense as her being weirdly attracted to her son.

Not saying it’s not valid criticism, but I think it’s mainly to establish Craig’s life is just weird and dumb and he’s too self centered and oblivious to do anything about it.

Yeah everything is heightened and weird. Why would she be a guest weatherman because she went missing?

Idk dude i think that happens to missing people who are found

That probably would have happened on the local news station I worked for. That and the 6 year old Tiger Woods kid who’s a generic white boy that looks like a doll.

I feel like seeing Tim Robinson in a movie or show where he doesn’t go full Tim Robinson sketch character would be a tremendous let down.

I interpreted the closeness of the mom/son being intentional to highlight just how emotionally distant he is even from his own immediate family
