I wasn’t sure if it would reach the Midwest

  2. If you're theater typically gets A24 films, I'm like 90% sure wide release means it'll be near you. Unless your theaters are super small and only get blockbusters, which happens sometimes (we never got I Saw the TV Glow here)

Yeah, if A24 movies have reached you in the past it should play there. I doubt it will go as wide as something like Civil War but it should get a bigger release than say I Saw The TV Glow. Friendship absolutely is not a mainstream comedy so I am not sure what it's commerical prospects are gonna look like. It's def going to be a cult comedy. It plays like a Tim Robinson character stumbled in to an A24 drama (compliment. It's funny as fuck but if ITYSL is not your thing, you will hate every minute of this)

Apparently I am at a place in my life where a friend invites me to perform in a 10pm improv show in North Hollywood, I drive up there with minimal info, and then realize the show is 3 Fridays from now. So, thanks to my own poor reading comprehension, I am now in Burbank about to catch a late showing of this.

Not that there’s a ton of crossover with those audiences, but releasing it wide the same weekend as “Mission: Impossible” and “Lilo and Stitch” is basically throwing it in the lion’s den to get devoured by the competition.

They should have just gone wide this weekend or even next up against Final Destination. The thing is, in NYC at the few theaters it’s playing at they keep adding more and more showtimes because they are selling out. Not that it could be a blockbuster but you are right going up against potentially the biggest weekend since Barbenheimer is poor planning on A24’s part

This was a lot of fun. Need a Seal Team 6 lunch now.

I think Conner had the funniest line in a film full of hilarious lines

Taking my wife to see this this weekend. We have had too many conversations about us having trouble making friends with other preschool parents and having awkward interactions at work where I wanted to reference the movie so badly but couldn’t. I couldn’t live like that.

My theater only had like maybe 15-20 people in it but we were all immediately locked in from ”ITS NOT COMIN BAACK!” and the entire theater lost it for like a clean 5-10 seconds after the quoted line above.

On first watch that was my takeaway as funniest quotable line. I’m sure with each rewatch I’ll find new ones in there

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

Well they aren't making it easy for me to support this. Looks like my choices for seeing it in a theater next week are either Falmouth, ME or Methuen, MA which in the grand scheme of things isnt that bad but they seriously couldn't get one screen between the NH Seacoast and Portland? So lame.

It releases wider on May 23rd so might reach you then.

Yes I know its not out until the 23rd, I checked the movie's website, fandango, and the sites for the specific theaters near me for that date specifically and there is literally nothing.

They likely won’t list times and locations until Tuesday. A24 doesn’t normally do super advance ticket sales.

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

ah gotcha, I figured I'd just be able to get them like a week ahead of time like I do with most others. Some of the theaters I checked don't even list this movie yet so I just assumed its not playing there at all.

Indie theaters will likely give you a heads up on what’s coming over the next month or two. But Regal or AMC - you usually don’t find out until the week of unless it’s a blockbuster.
