The whole “design” of both main apartments is also really weird. Like when you think about where the windows are placed, what views they have..the building makes no sense haha
Though my bigger problem with most sitcoms where the characters live in apartments is that NONE OF THEIR VISITORS ever get buzzed in
speaking of apartments Ross is the only one who never had a roommate right? how did he manage that, pretty sure Chandler would be the wealthiest of the crew
A criticism I’ve heard multiple times is how could Monica afford that apartment but they establish early on she’s sub-leasing it from her aunt and it’s rent controlled, so she was probably only paying $400 a month
Money isn't an issue to Ross! As he explains in five steaks and an eggplant! His income is popping! Phoebe is the one who is a question mark for me lol. I guess she's thrifty and had roommates but sis wasn't making that much. At least Rachel worked her way up and Joey would occasionally get gigs and he had help from Chandler.
The one in Joey and Chandler's almost makes less sense to me. Their giant living room window faces out, yet the hallway goes in that direction, seems longer than their apartment AND then turns for the staircase going up and down. So how is there a window that faces out? Is the staircase simply above and below it but with nothing blocking the window area? Sure, that makes sense! I have spent considerable time wondering who designs TV show houses and how much thought go into them ahead of time for storylines and placement of characters. Like, Home Improvement had to be planned out to make most use of Tim's wacky hijinks.
oh that looked bigger on the preview link https://images.adsttc.com/media/ima...s_floorplan_by_nikneuk-d5bz8b3.jpg?1409773743
wait... the bathtub moves in Monica's apartment too! in most episodes it's "behind" the door (i.e. when Phoebe and Rachel find the pregnancy test in the trash) but when Chandler and Monica are taking a bath it's directly across from the door. GODDAMN CONTINUITY.
Joey and Chandler's toilet is in the wrong area in this image. the image that immediately comes to mind is Joey falling asleep on the toilet and the toilet is always directly in the shot with the door open, then the bathtub. great work by whoever made, this, but it's not correct!
true people only buzzed when it was convenient to the plot, much like how they only locked their doors when it was convenient for the plot. which is ridic to me! I lock the door behind me as soon as I get inside and every time I leave!
The closet in Monica’s apartment has a question mark but didn’t an episode have Chandler determined to find what’s in it and eventually found it was just packed to the gills of supplies and other stuff that Monica’s ashamed of since she’s such a neat freak
The more I look at the outline of the apartments the more I realize what an oddly shaped building that would be in a city where almost all buildings (especially that part) would be a simple rectangle shape. Unless there's a lot of extra space / building material since the apartments don't even line of (outside of the main doors).
Huh I always just assumed there was a lil courtyard or something outside of Monica's kitchen window but I suppose that should be the hallway
