Finding it really interesting so many people here bouncing off of this while it's getting good reviews from critics. Why is that, I wonder.
Yeah lol saying someone is bad in one performance is hardly saying they don’t like the performer at all, be for real
thank god the brother told Victor that he was actually the monster because I would have NEVER put that together myself
I am glad William used his dying moments to tell the audience that it is actually Victor who is the monster. I didn't get it yet.
I really liked this. I’m a sucker for films that are shot primarily with wide lens and that the cinematography was one of the best this year. The creature forgiving Victor was a really nice touch as well. Brought the religious themes full circle. Might be my favorite Del Toro film tbh. I will say Elizabeth’s attraction to the creature was very sudden, but I think it matched with her more pure view of life, compared to Victor’s more cynical outlook.
Just finished watching this and holy shit Jacob Elordi is the real fucking deal, what an incredible performance from him!!
This really worked for me! As always for GDT, the production design was impeccable but as others stated - this is the first role where Elordi really sells me on his ability. It’s the first time he has a grounded kindness and softness in his presence that sold his role in the story. Fully in on him going forward (outside of Wuthering Heights ew). Issac didn’t bother me at all, he played things campier than most others - but it worked for me.
I put this on at the gym thinking it would be a good distraction while doing cardio and this movie made being on the treadmill worse
if it's a good movie or show then I zone out on the exercise part and a bunch of time passes I've tried reading a book but I'm not a good enough runner and all of the motion / stumbling / dry heaving makes it hard to see the book I can't imagine not watching something while doing cardio on a machine - raw dogging a treadmill is insane
it seemed like a lot of people really enjoyed this, and I didn't wanna be a party pooper right away, but this definitely was not for me
It’s complicated because I wanted to like this way more than I actually did. I like some of del Toro’s decisions in humanizing the monster, but I don’t like how dumbed-down the dialogue is. I hate how they totally eschew all of Shelley’s themes in the book regarding nature and gender. I don’t love the crappy CGI. Elordi is great though.
