Urgh. Frank's politics are.. interesting. He seems to have taken politics out of his music completely which I find odd considering it was a huge part of those early albums.
I, for one, am glad he's taken his awful politics out of his music lol. It's part of why I don't love the first couple of albums as much as everyone else. There's still a lot to love about them but some of the political lyrics are very iffy, at best.
“Awful” politics is subjective and it’s part of what made him interesting. At least he had a personality and some charm instead of whatever he has turned into now days lol
Do One is fine musically, the lyrics just suck - which appears to be a recurring pattern for Frank these days.
the mix on this one is weird or something, it sounds cheap somehow. song's a lot stronger than most of the others so far though
I know it's easy to clown on Frank, but his appetite for live shows is awesome. And, as someone who saw him in November, he is still brilliant live.
Haven’t listened to any new songs outside of “Do One”, which I thought was okay. Nothing special, not terrible overall, but not interesting enough to have me listen to more before the album comes out. FTHC was his strongest effort since Tape Deck Heart, and I hope it carries that same energy. I never listened to No Man’s Land mostly due to the fact that Be More Kind left such a bad taste in my mouth (aside from maybe 2 or 3 songs). Despite his mostly lackluster over the last 9-10 years though, he still puts on some of the most fun shows I’ve ever been to.
Haven’t seen Frank live in like 4-5 years, but his shows were always fun as hell. Used to see him as much as possible in MA and that was like 2-3 times per year lol
Well, as expected, most of this album is pretty.... ok to bad, at best a lot is just unmemorable BUT "Never Mind The Back Problems" is exactly the kind of song that made me fall in love with Frank. Great fucking song. "Girl From The Record Shop" is pretty fun. "Letters" is alright. "Pandemic PTSD" is exactly, and completely, what you think it is. You could get AI to write this song with the input of "Frank Turner song about the pandemic"
I go back to Frank’s albums every once in a while but I think his best album is Positive Songs. especially love Song For Josh or whatever it’s called
