Great show last night as always. Will echo what others have said, new songs are great live. The electronica-ish elements from the album are gone live and songs like Blackout and MAGA are better as a result. Super minor setlist notes/quibbles: 1) Weird that he's playing Out of Breath every night, and in such a key spot too (2nd to last song, before Photosynthesis), is this a more popular song among fans than I think it is?? Not one of my favorites off that album. That slot should be something like Peggy Sang The Blues, Love Ire & Song, The Road, or Glory Hallelujah, none of which were played..... 2) Great 3-some to close the encore in I Still Believe, 4 Simple Words, and Polaroid Picture, I literally wouldn't change a thing about that part of the set on paper........EXCEPT he skips the intro on 4SW and plays the slow/Songbook version of PP..........ugh. Really enjoyed 21st Century Survival Blues and Get It Right live. Menzingers were awesome. Lucero - ehhhh, boring.
I do think Out I’d Breath is a pretty bottom tier tune on PSFNP, and that is def a weird spot in the setlist for it. It’s fun live, though. Absolutely wild you didn’t get Love, Ire & Song, Peggy, The Road, or Glory Hallelujah. Pretty sure all times I’ve seen him these ALL are in the set like every time. And glad you loved the Menzingers. Greg definitely is the majority singer and it doesn’t hurt when all his songs are absolutely killers live. I feel bad for Tom sometimes, as the crowd is definitely less amped during his songs compared to Greg’s.
7 new songs in the set every night, some of the old good stuff is going to get left out.....I had seen setlists so knew those were unlikely, I'm just saying it's weird to play Out of Breath every night.
Out of Breath works that way in the set because they’ve been ending it on an A Major chord and Photosynthesis starts on a D Major chord so it’s a smooth transition
I'm a hardcore Frank fan and Out of Breath is probably my least favorite Frank song. I wish he'd stop playing it live.
Out of Breath rules, especially live! New songs sounded good last night, he debuted Lifeboats which is probably my least fav on the album but it was decent lol
Night 1 of Boston was awesome! It’s been a year for me to forget he’s on another level live. Round 2 tomorrow!
I'm glad I don't live in Boston because I don't think I'd have the self control not to go to all 6 shows
Different album, but Song for Josh will never not choke me up. Considering doing a Frank turner bracket once I get back from this festival at the weekend if there is interest.
Cool, I made a rough plan of how it could work earlier. Because of how many releases and songs he has, I have made each album and both of the first Three Years releases their own section as usual. I joined the Third Three Years with PSFNP, because it didn't have many original songs. Top two from each album go through, plus one each from the first two Three Years compilations. That makes a final 16. Was thinking of just leaving out Songbook unless there are any objections.
I've been trying to find videos on YouTube of Frank & the band performing some of the songs from Be More Kind live. I'm not having much luck. The videos I'm finding have pretty poor sound quality, but I do have to say that every song that I don't like from the album is significantly improved when they play it live. They also sound completely different to me. On the video I found of them playing "Little Changes" for example, Frank is playing acoustic guitar and you can really hear it and Nigel Powell is going to town on the drums. I don't hear acoustic guitar at all on the album. I know all music is different when played live, but for me the music and arrangements on these songs are markedly and drastically different live. I am really hoping for an official release of some of these songs played live during this era at some point in the future.
Frank is just so good live, which is why even if his most recent albums haven't done anything for me, I'll still go to the shows because even the songs I'm not into are just performed so darn well.
I’d been rather disappointed with Get It Right especially as a closer, but I saw him perform it at an acoustic instore and it completely changed my perspective. The recording just doesn’t do it justice. Quite a few of the tracks on this seem to fit in that category.
