Yeah that seems to be the going rate online too last I checked. I saw one for $20 in a local store awhile back and now I wish I'd gone for it. I also just don't understand the logic behind not officially pressing it.
Maybe it's just not worth the hassle? I don't get it either. I just want all my favorite records to be in print forever, is that too much to ask?
On blonde: wish I bought two but mostly because I play the shit out of mine. I don’t think I’d part with it for any amount of money at this point. On bootlegs: my copy of nostalgia ultra sounds fine. I’m holding out on channel orange though since he owns the masters.
I've been told by someone familiar with the matter that the magazines sold this week were left over from prior sales. The website does say "re-issue," but the copies that have already been delivered have no indication of a second printing. I don't think there is a zero-chance that Blonde won't be reprinted, but I don't think it's super likely either. He's apparently working on getting Channel Orange pressed, but I'm not sure what the hold-ups are. I thought he had bought back his masters with the Apple bonus on Blonde.
These are not licensed records. They are pressed from CD rips. Depending on the plant, they make for fine player records, but they aren't mixed specifically for vinyl. It's just CD-sourced WAVs printed on wax. I bought one of the first ones. It sounds terrible and the wax has bubbles. Bad buy, in my opinion. The unofficial compilations are worse, often pressed from lossy MP3s. If you see any Channel LIVE or unreleased, MISC collections, skip em.
Huh interesting. The guy at my store explained it to me WAY different from what I remember. So they’re not getting anything from the label/person except permission to press it?
If a copy of Blonde doesn't have the black cover with either a black friday sticker or XL Recordings on the back and 862160000302 on the spine, it is a bootleg. Your record store guy either doesn't understand how these come about or they are willfully misleading their customers to avoid trouble. There are consequences to selling bootlegged material, especially modern stuff like Ocean's albums. I've talked to owners in shops all over the midwest, asking if they have any of the bootlegs in stock. They all tell me that they won't allow them to be sold in their store or they lie and say they are official. Discogs has a hard ban on the sale of any counterfeit Blonde records. Here's their list of releases. Of the 15 unique catalog numbers and variants listed, only one is legitimate.
Oh damn... yeah I mean I definitely knew it wasn’t legit but he made it seem like the label gave permission to a plant to press the records, it’s just not an official pressing. Sorry for misleading anyone in here, don’t listen to me!!!
Ummm so there's a Frankie album that is not on spotify thats fire apparently?? Im sure yall are familiar with it.
Endless and Nostalgia Ultra are not on there. Endless is really good and really underrated, I’m sure you know Nostalgia since it was his first mixtape / album
Is it the live channel orange stuff + the outtakes from that era? Or is it newly surfaced stuff? Edit: I see a Chanel unmastered version has been floating around, is this from the same collection?
A lot of stuff from the Lonny Breaux Collection is unfinished demos and reference tracks but there's some cool shit in there It's also an unofficial release in case anyone didn't realize
The Lonny Breaux Collection is interesting, but it's important to note that not all tracks are sung by Frank, only written. There are a few tracks that go the other way as well, with Frank providing reference vocals for another writer's track. None of this material was intended to be released (excluding Acura Integurl depending on which copy of the tape you download) and everything on it was created prior to the adoption of the Frank Ocean name. If you want to dig deeper and get into the unreleased material that bridges the gap between this and Nostalgia Ultra/Channel Orange, check out undocumented, RARE. This is a 42 track collection of my own creation, intended to act as a companion to LBC. More info and download link here: undocumented, RARE — blonded.blog
