This song is definitely better, the song itself seems pretty solid. Production a mess again, which really just makes me miss what they used to be, but cool to hear they still have it in them
Too many negative comments about them! We need that one guy with hearing problems who pops in here occasionally and says positive things about them to balance this out.
You’re right haha. I try not to say anything mean about them, but every decision they’ve made since The Church of Rock n Roll has absolutely confounded me.
One of the oddest cases of band implosion I e seen. They had everything going for them around church of rock n roll and just had a massive drop in quality for everything after. Not even a glimmer of recapturing the highs of previous albums.
I've listened to all of it multiple times. Gonzo is shit top to bottom. The first two albums post hiatus have some really good stuff but it sounds like trash so it's hard to enjoy. The latest one is horrible, unredeemable. I'll listen to the new one and anything else they do
This is a good summary. I heard glimmers of the old band in the first two post-hiatus albums but can’t endure the production. Everything else has been…made for clockwise I guess?
I like maybe 6-7 songs from the post Gonzo albums in total. At the most. I don't really understand the strategy, is it just "back to our lo-fi roots" or what? I have zero doubt Nally could still write some arena-ready bangers if he wanted to.
I remember when Gonzo came out - I was a new/recent fan - and the 2 previous albums were so fucking great........being just SO DISAPPOINTED that this was the follow-up. It sounded like a bunch of bad demos.
A few songs on Gonzo I don’t mind but even if the production sounded good, the songwriting took a nosedive. and again I’d like to state that I would never expect a rock band in the year 2025 to have the production or energy of the self-titled, but in a world where it is easier/cheaper than ever to make things sound good, I’m just so confused.
I think this is their best post-hiatus album but the production and narration sections (which are not helped by the production) really really hamper it.
It's a broken record at this point, but there are some tracks on this album that absolutely would be pretty good with ANY production at all, and likely would be great live. I recently upgraded my speaker system, so they shitty production stands out even more than it used to
