Foxy Shazam – “Magic”

Their first new song in a minute that's a certified banger.

 

I really wish they’d go back to the arena rock sound of the self titled. This single is the best song they’ve put out in years, but doesn’t reach those heights. Their last album I struggled to get through

 

I can’t think of another band that’s had quite the trajectory of Foxy Shazam. There was so much potential with the self titled album, and they still had a fire burning with the album that followed, but with Gonzo they fell off completely. It really sucks. Everything since has been unlistenable.

There were moments that could’ve been used for even more traction (the Super Bowl commercial, the amazing hook on that Macklemore song) but outside looking in it seems like the bad weird took over. No clue if that’s primarily Eric’s doing but what a bummer.

 

This interview is a few years old, but it does give us some more insight into the mindset of Eric and the band through each of their eras. Justin Hawkins does a good job of asking the tough questions regarding Eric's reluctance to capitalize on many of the moments you mentioned.

I think it’s easy from the outside to say “wow, what are they doing?” or “if they’d only do ______ they’d be massive” but success looks different for everybody. I’m happy Eric’s happy with his/Foxy’s career.
