Keep in mind that they're not just trying to buy the X-Men and Fantastic Four, though (and also the old Star Wars films, which 20th Century Fox still has). There's a lot of good in those going "home," and that's probably a big incentive to Disney pursuing this. But, this would include all film and television properties Fox owns outside of news and sports. Alien, Predator, Die Hard, Planet of the Apes, Ice Age, Avatar, X-Files, Simpsons, Family Guy, FX, Home Alone, etc.
Disney owns Touchstone and used to own Miramax, so a Disney-owned property getting released with an R rating under a different banner than Disney isn't a stretch. What exactly they would decide to do with specifically Alien and Predator is hard to say, as is what they'd do with fan favorite Deadpool. But, the odds of those getting future r-rated releases should this sale go through is still more than 0%, I'd say.
Fantastic Four will be right at the top of the line. I’m sure Marvel wants to finally get that right.
Fox really wants to instill some hope and excitement for this franchise, and it almost works for me. It's hard for me to allow a sequel to Apocalypse, helmed by a first time director who's a white dude that's failed upward, into my heart, but hopefully I'm delightfully surprised by the results. Also, Jessica Chastain is playing a "shapeshifter" according to this short interview, which lends some credibility to that Skrull rumor. How that'll affect Captain Marvel (and Avengers 4, if fan theories about a Secret Invasion angle are at all correct) in the public eye will be interesting.
The series has had enough highs for me to always be interested in a new X-Men movie. I'm down for this.
More emotional than DOFP and Logan? That's hard to beat emotion wise for me. Still, like Joe said I am sold on any Xmen movie, but I still feel like this is too soon since we just got these characters last movie and were only in costume for like 12 seconds
What Would Disney And Fox Deal Mean For Fantastic Four? So, Disney would technically only have partial rights to the Fantastic Four, though it's reasonable to assume the Constantin situation would be worked out rather quickly. After all, they were able to make a deal with Sony for Spider-Man's rights and exploit a loophole to use the Hulk in spite of Universal's distribution rights. Even if they don't work out a deal, Constantin probably wouldn't be able to do anything without Disney's involvement, either, and I imagine there'd still be a time limit on production of a new film. Depending on how everything is written up, if nothing else, I imagine Disney could just wait for Constantin's unusable production rights to expire from lack of use.
Disney already made both Human Torches look better in their world, so I doubt Constantin will have much hesitance with Disney.
I'm really glad Fox is realizing the potential they've been wasting now that it's probably too late. *sigh*
There’s always the chance that this film is being prepared with the MCU in mind or at least to leave it open to being in the MCU. Just don’t get Ellen Page back in the role.
The Kitty Pryde movie wouldn't come out for a while since Tim Miller is working on Terminator, right? Also, supposedly Gambit starts filming March 19th.
I don't understand this director turnover. Fox seems very open to different superhero approaches, and Channing Tatum really loves Gambit. This is a bigger no brainer than most of Fox's Marvel stuff. Is Fox demanding too much with budget or schedule? Do these directors somehow not realize until working for a while that their vision clashes with Tatum's?
Remember when he collaborated with Pharrell Williams and Johnny Marr for the Amazing Spider-Man 2 score? I mostly really dug that, minus the poor choice to have those voices in that one scene. Everything else was great. The main theme was super cool. Like most things that film got right, that music doesn't get appreciated enough.
