Political me: Monopolies are trash. Disney is already a bully with the power they have now. Nerdy me: If this includes Marvel properties (it's apparently not everything), Wolverine and Doom and the like could be in an Avengers film!
I don't think we ever would have gotten First Class, DOFP and for sure would not have gotten Deadpool or Logan if Disney owned the rights. Fox seems like they are taking chances, even if they don't always pan out. Coming up we have a horror (New Mutants), sci-fi adventure (Dark Phoenix) and comedy (Deadpool 2), I don't think you'd get that variety if they were MCU. This is terrible news if true.
Kevin Feige (Fiege? I dunno) has said in the past that he wouldn't say no to an R rated film. Plus we have the Netflix universe that is pretty grisly. I wouldn't say it was the end of the line for boundary pushing if the purchase did end up happening.
If this went down, there's so much potential. Oh man, I hope it does happen. So many layers and worries to have, but we'll see.
I would so much rather have the X-Men stay separate at this point to be honest. Fantastic Four, though, can absolutely go back.
For sure. It would be cool to see what the Xmen would look like in the MCU, but at this point we are getting 3 MCU movies a year AND 3 Fox films a year? If Disney owned them all, would they still be able to have that kind of output still?
yeah. I cant see this ever happening. But, I could see another random player make a purchase in the future like Amazon, or even Apple.
James Franco, Simon Kinberg, ‘Wonder Woman’ Scribe Allan Heinberg Team On Fox’s Marvel Mutant ‘Multiple Man’
REPORT: Sony Among Many Corporations Looking to Acquire Fox Movie Assets I'm loving imagining a world where Sony and Fox join forces to make their own Marvel Cinematic Universe, lol. Give me a Spider-Man/Wolverine crossover film, and also keep up the weird, cool spinoff development going. On that note, I didn't get a chance to respond to the Multiple Man film in development. I'm sick of the studio with the X-Men focusing on white dudes for their spinoffs when they have characters like Storm and Dazzler staring them in the eyes. But, in a vacuum, a film based on Peter David's Madrox work is super exciting.
Would we get films with Spider-Man and Wolverine together? Sony seems to be trying to give the spotlight to their villains while Spider-Man is in the MCU. I assumed that it's more likely we'll see X-Men characters with Venom, Black Cat, Silver Sable, and Morbius, due to those characters getting their own films.
i want X-Men and Fantastic Four back in the MCU so badly. The new X-Men trilogy might be my favorite set of superhero movies ever and I really, really want some of those characters in with the MCU. Fantastic Four needs to stop trying to be so dark and embrace how campy and cheesy that team is. Straight up give them like pulp 50s attire and over the top personalities and just see what happens.
I don't think it's that wild to think a Sony with the rights to Spider-Man and his world, all the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four would consider a live action Spider-Man film eventually with some of those other characters in the picture. Maybe they'd get out of the Marvel deal as soon as the current contracts are up. Or, maybe they'd work something out for the Fantastic Four and Wolverine within the MCU like they did with Spidey while still doing other stuff like Deadpool on the side. Or, like you said, maybe there'd be a Wolverine/Venom film instead. Heck, maybe even Miles Morales and the Fantastic Four crossing over. Honestly, I'd be at peace with the X-Men continuing to largely operate outside of the MCU. Maybe a multiversal crossover a la Supergirl and Flash, but introducing a fully formed mutant world into this established MCU would be messy. The only organic way to work mutants in outside of a multiverse that I would dig is something with the Ultimate Marvel version of Weapon X, where instead of natural mutation, the mutants were the products of experiments in an attempt to recreate the Super Soldier program. Like, I could see them starting introducing Wolverine in a film where he teams up with Captain America, with a Weapon X history that could also incorporate Isaiah Bradley's history from Truth: Red, White & Black. Maybe Alpha Flight could be incorporated into that story, too. In a post-credits scene, they could set up an underground group of mutants based on the Morlocks, which could then lead to slowly establishing mutants existing in this world. You'd have to slowly build to a new X-Men built from scratch, but I want the current film X-Men thrown out and rebuilt from scratch anyways, lol, so it works. (Yes, I've already thought way too much about this!) And, yes, I'd love a big, corny, fun Fantastic Four film. Though, I'd also love something more science-y without losing the fun and adventure. Kinda like a blend between classic Star Trek, classic Superman, and GOTG.
yeah im fine with the X-Men being their own thing and youre right it would be really really awkward and messy given what the MCU has done with the Inhumans and how odd it would be to try and establish mutants. I just love the X-Men so much, theyre my favorite superhero team, and I really really want to see some of them interacting with the MCU characters. YES absolutely F4 should be this goofy yet cerebral experience. Like the right balance of cheesy yet also interesting. I'd love to see Mr Fantastic alongside Stark and Banner just discussing scientific research and maybe bouncing ideas off of each other. I like Scott Lang but i really really wish we'd gotten Hank Pym as Ant-Man because I always enjoyed seeing those 4 in a room together just interacting in the comics.
Dazzler is probably going to be a pass. What kind of story would they tell that isn't Jem and the Empty Theaters?
Yeah I would hate the X-Men to be part of the MCU. Too messy and way too easy to not do them justice.
Jem failed because it wasn't good. A good Dazzler film with a charming cast, a great soundtrack, and effective character work would totally be a hit.
I can't pretend the prospect of Fox's Marvel properties being under the same roof as the MCU doesn't interest my nerdy mind. But, as this gets allegedly much closer to becoming a reality, all I can think about is the danger of Disney owning EVERYTHING. Sure, I'll be hyped at the first news of the F4 or Wolverine appearing in the MCU, but that doesn't make monopolies less bad.
I'd be more inclined to agree with you if Disney wasn't buying properties they already own. The only reason those properties weren't there to begin with was because of Marvel's struggles with cash in the 80's and 90's. Now that everything is coming back together, it feels more natural. I'll throw my hat in your ring when Disney buys Dark Horse or Image comics.
