Ok, Won't Drown and Lambert are a perfect combo to end this record. And not that I dislike it, but I think Crown Candy is the weakest song on this for me. I think it just kills the pacing after Bastardizer. With that said I still find enjoyment in every song on this.
crown candy is a tough song but that chord progression really works once i’d identified it a bit more. Transitionally super beautiful tbh
Okay last thing - the snare work in the chorus is MASTERFUL. - That left turn in the C part or whatever is nailed and brings to mind Not Abel for no real reason - Love the disintegration before the final vocal-heavy chorus Listening again and yeah this track rips
Well shit. Was really hoping the vinyl would come with a lyrics sheet I could immerse myself with, guess not
Ordered the red variant off discogs today since no shop around me had it. This has become one of my fav album arts of the year too so I’m stoked to have it.
@teebs41 was right - this record is something else on vinyl (and it was already something else on digital lmao)
Something never quite clicked with them before for me but this is outrageously good. It gives me feelings of so many bands - the obvious, Radiohead, As Tall As Lions, MuteMath. I also 100% see that Bloc Party comparison in the last song which is crazy. This is movie-esque music and it is awesome.
Agreed. I’ve always found them to be an incredible live band but their recordings never quite captured their energy imo. For lack of a better word, their albums were just boring to me. But this one bops. Haven’t really decided how I feel about it as a whole but Lich Prince and Five Cups are some of the best songs I’ve heard all year.
crown candy is the biggest grower on the album for me. i really like the weird chords, and the chorus melody is always stuck in my head. the piano version of the chorus at the end is strangely amazing too
That reminds me I really need to go spin The Albatross and Dealer again soon. Its been months since I've listened to them. Also @radiodead I'm like 99% sure the only pressing of this on 180g wax is the /250 black but all the others are still 2xLPs at least.
my favorite moments in this entire thing are super specific. in "Trapped in Dillard's" I absolutely adore Connor's vocals in two points in particular. "so I'm drifting by the woman in the clouds, of the celebrity colooooooooooooogne" "and it feels nice to think, that someone's watching from abooooooove" I could listen to an entire album from them like this, it never gets old.
Man that last chorus in Won’t Drown gives me chills EVERY TIME!!! I really hope they play it on the tour
