Just listening to Nearer My Pod ep 2 and I wish even more I told Conor I thought he was hot when I met him last week
Yeah and in the podcast he said Eric was the most insecure person he knows!! Like he is handsome AF. And he can shred.
I mean, Foxing is one of her favorite bands too so it doesn't actually upset her or anything haha. Fun fact, a couple of guys from the band used to volunteer at the highschool she went to, Parkway North.
Because St Louis is hell! Or at least a hell mouth. That's a legit conversation I've had with my girlfriend and her sister.
Hi. My name is Kevin and I’m visiting St. Louis for the first time in November. I should cancel the flights.
I'd like to go back to St. Louis as an adult. I went when I was 14 and wandered around both sides of the river late at night.
Finally logged in again to give some quick thoughts. I actually had no idea what was going on when each unreleased song came on. I didn't know what to think after the first listen but after a 2nd and a 3rd with the lyrics, I definitely love this album. I literally sing a part from each song randomly every day lol.
I've heard equal shares of great things and really bad things about this album. Honestly, it's in the middle for me. It's not awesome, but it's not a trainwreck like some reviews have made it out to be. I don't know why it's getting Science Fiction comparisons, but practically every indie-ish emo album has gotten Science Fiction comparisons since its release and it just seems like a lazy reference. Personally, it just always seems to create hype that isn't warranted, mainly since Science Fiction is a monolith and I haven't heard a new album better than it yet. The same thing happened with Sister Cities, which I thought was a solid 7/10, but not worth all the immense hype.
So I actually was very hyped for this release after seeing them on the recent Circa tour. They performed Slapstick, Lich Prince, annnnnnd I wanna say the title track. I only really gave it a solid three listens as of yesterday. Four listens in now...this record is something else. The sequencing is superb. Gameshark may very well be the most over-looked song in regards to the consensus of this website, and elsewhere. The whole theme of the record of God/the apocalypse/death/suicide/heaven etc. gameshark ties perfectly to that. It also flows so well into the title track. Lyrically this is so dense. I want to pick this apart more. Though I’m realizing I need the proper lyrics.
No, I agree, I'm sick of seeing albums just randomly compared to it. Science Fiction was an amazing album, but it wasn't particularly innovative, and seeing people just throw it around as a reference point is just really meaningless and unnecessary to me.
The first time I listened to Slapstick my wife was in the room and she said “this really sounds like Coldplay.”
I think Slapstick may be my least favorite and even when it got released I thought it was whatever and it didn’t get me excited at all Otherwise the front half of the album is incredible and I’m starting to love the second half as well
I’m still struggling with gameshark and the weirder vocals on crown and lich, but I love the rest so much.
Ha, I'm the opposite. Slapstick (and the end of Grand Paradise) are the highlights of the first half but I have struggled to get into that first half. I've also struggled with the weirder vocals across bits of the album (particularly the tracks @disambigujason just mentioned). I much prefer the second half of the album and have actually started playing at Nearer My God the last few listens. I really want to get the hype and persevere with this album... but then mewithoutYou released their surprise EP and I can't see me urgently coming back to this any time soon. I don't regret buying it, it just doesn't hit me as 'instant classic' like a lot of people are saying. I love that everyone else loves it though!
