I’d say after first listen that Grand Paradise, Gameshark, and Lambert are pretty easy favorites. Most of the second half kinda ran together for me initially. Need to do much more digesting though.
the string screech into the last chorus of Won't Drown at 3:47 is literally the greatest musical moment of the year
do you have a link to your review? I don't think I saw it but we seem to be noticing a lot of the same stuff, hah
Opening vocals to Lambert remind me of something off of And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out in a good way. What an album. Gonna go pass out and put it on again in the morning.
Heartbeats requires good headphones and the volume cranked.. I feel like I'm transported to another world when I jam that one
Gameshark didn’t feel out of place to me because tbqh this was such a jarring succession of songs that I felt like anything could happen anyway lol. I’m really excited to see how this goes from feeling a little disjointed for me to tying itself completely together. Really wild record
If this isn't my aoty then I can't imagine what will be. Completely flawed by this. Only listened to slapstick before. And I'm glad I did. This doesn't even feel like 56 minutes. Goes by so easily and I'm usually a fan of shorter albums.
Sitting in bed a lil drunk with Pizza and good headphones and believe it or not Grand Paradise still SLAPS!!!
good first listen will listen more and report back Gameshark still leaves me cold - also the Blood Bros comparison is lazy - a falsetto doesn’t a bb song make Slapstick is amazing, also the opening and closing tracks
I do feel the record sort of pushes itself sonically into a direction after 5 cups.. by the time you get to bastardizer and crown candy it sort of feels natural to have arrived in that sonic space
