While I will absolutely judge this on the full product and look forward to checking it out, I don’t know if it’s going to be for me based on the clips I heard of each song
Both of those were/are my favorite albums released in the past 5 years. So I’m forsure already sold that I’m going to love this record, but if it’s up to those levels then damn.
Will be interesting to read another classically trained musicians thoughts on some of the harmonic risks they took on the record. Took me a few listens to wrap my head around some of the chord choices but I think they definitely pulled it off. It reminds me of Radiohead most in that respect where the chords sometimes don't make sense but the melody pulls it together.
what would be the ideal tour for them to grow their fanbase with this record? Its hard to pinpoint a specific sound that they would fit well with.
Honestly with the way their live performance is I can’t think of a tour that wouldn’t be great for them, but I think The National would be a great pick, and for whatever reason I’m thinking Fall Out Boy but I think it’s just cause I’m listening to Grand Paradise and his voice kinda reminds me of Patrick
The entire first half is such a ride that I ended up not appreciating the second half as much up until Crown Candy kicked in. Spent most of it trying to remember how to breathe lol so I'll probably end up appreciating it a lot more with more listens. Can't wait to get home and just rinse the everloving fuck out of this on my speakers Early standouts are Grand Paradise, Lich Prince, Won't Drown and Lambert
This immediacy sort of slows down in the second half, but it's not necessarily for the worse; it's just very different. Won't Drown is great.
this is where I'm at. The only other music I'm going to listen to is a few new vinyl records I've gotten
Just finished Five Cups and taking a break. The album honestly could've been just those first 6 songs and I'd be beyond happy with it. Looking forward to what awaits in the second half of the album.
after several listens I really love that the second half of this album is basically electro-pop, lmao. it's the most I've been consistently surprised by a back half of an album in a long time
