Bastardizer is great, but something has to be towards the bottom. This is maybe a top 10 record of the decade for me, so every song on here has something wonderful about it.
It’s my more preferred of the three songs I mentioned. I think it’s a good song for sure, but it just hasn’t gotten to the next level for me yet.
I honestly forget that Crown Candy exists sometimes until it comes on. That’s gonna sound harsher than I intend it to be, but I guess that’s what happens when the album is almost an hour long
Got into this LP after seeing them open for Coheed. At first it was mainly the moody dark stuff like Slapstick and Five Cups that piqued my interest, but I have to say almost every track has grown on me a lot. If I had to pick a few weak links they'd prob be Gameshark, Heartbeats, and Dillards. But none are really skip-worthy. Very impressive record. I still need to check out their older stuff.
Ah that sucks. I'm supposed to be visiting a friend in Colorado that day so I'm tryna reschedule because I've never seen Foxing live before
Gave some of the stuff off Dealer a shot this afternoon, and have to say I far prefer NMG for now. Just got a much more generic "chill indie" vibe (with fleeting exceptions, to be fair), and that's def not my cup of tea. NMG strikes me as more layered, atmospheric, and overall innovative. Will try to give it a full, attentive listen at least once, though.
Each album just kind of ruins the others for me. Each release is just leagues better than the last. These guys are going to have an amazing catalogue. Also the evolution from Albatross to Dealer is probably one of the biggest leaps of any band. Especially the vocals. I remember looking up if they had gotten a new singer because the vocals had improved so much. Not that they were bad on Albatross.
I don’t see the growth between albums as drastic necessarily, but it is substantial. I remember Dealer coming out and being floored by stuff like Night Channels, Eiffel, and Glass Coughs.
I feel like Dealer is a little more atmospheric than this. There's more stuff that's in the same realm as Five Cups on Dealer. I agree they get better every album.
