I couldn't get into DDTM at all. Loved NMG. This song is weird AF. Not sure how I feel about it yet. Lot going on in 8 minutes
So for DDTM they decided to release the longest and arguably least accessible song first. Then the album had a relatively muted reception. And now they have doubled down on the same strategy. It's a bold play! I will say: Greyhound is better than Speak With The Dead DDTM is very good - Go Down Together or Beacons would have been amazing first singles I have great faith in the band and think the new album will be amazing... I just hope it then receives the recognition they deserve
Same probably. Or maybe Where The Lightning Strikes Twice because it kind of reminds me of ABBA which I find distracting (very much a me problem haha).
I think the relatively muted reception was due to a 5 month rollout with a single a month leading into a 10 song album personally, by the time it came out it was half-eaten
This is probably not the least accessible song on here. Probably not even bottom 3 DDTM was their crj album. This is their, uh, spiritbox album
man, I love this song and this moment lol DDTM hate is wild to me because Nearer My God is such a victory lap in terms of songwriting potential that they did the best possible thing they could after that, which is challenge themselves to write some bigger hooks while retaining their a lot of what makes them, them. It's arguably their second best imo. But also, this just popped up in my inbox, so if folks are interested in first impressions today, let me know, otherwise y'all can go in blind!
