I think I agree with this 100%. Nothing beats the mood of Dealer, but I really have to be in a specific mood to want to listen to anything other than the first three and Eiffel. NMG has higher highs than this too for me, but has my least favorite songs from these three albums as well. DDTM definitely is the most consistent front to back for me.
It’s very hard for me to choose between this, dealer, and nearer my god especially when dealer and nearer my god have years of experiences attached to them but this is undoubtedly my favorite album of the year
Just relistened to connors interview with jeremy bolm on first ever podcast, and it's sad how gutted they (initially) were on fucking Ronald McDonald's dealer review.
potential b-side in the future maybe? or, most likely, its just a segway into the title drop to close out the song
I was skipping 737 for a while, I know see the error in my ways and am ready to be roasted, still skip Lightning though, just don’t feel like the vibe fits at all and not a fan of that style in general, there isn’t another song on here I don’t absolutely love though and this is definitely aging well as fall rolls in
I have two extras for tonight in Philly. I got them during the Presale and it was will call only, so we’d have to meet at the venue. PM if interested.
Foxing was great last night! First time at a show since the last time I saw them on their tour with ManOrch and Oso Oso. I absolutely love their new stuff, but I do think the NMG and older cuts hit harder live. (Outside of 737.) Also I had no idea baseball was a thing this time of year and drove to Fenway like an idiot. Honestly shocked we only missed a coupls Slothrust songs sitting in torturous traffic and then trying to find a parking spot. Edit: forgot to give a shout-out to Foxing’s merch person who was the nicest merch person ever!!!
Revisiting NMG a lot this week and it's still showing me why it's my second favorite album of all time. What an exceptional album, wow. There's just so much to love in each song. Lich Prince -> Gameshark -> Nearer My God has to be my favorite 3 song streak of any record. However, I do have to say two things that might get my Chorus card revoked: 1. The hate Crown Candy got back in the day isn't justified and I think there's some really cool sounds in there. Not sure if the opinion still stands among the crowd today, but I have to say that after lurking the old album thread. It felt like every odd numbered page back in the day had a gripe about it lol 2. While I love Slapstick on its own as a song, I think it doesn't "fit" in the album. It feels a little jarring, or maybe a bit slow starting, after Grand Paradise and I feel like Lich Prince could've been a better Track 2 in terms of sequencing. Don't get me wrong, it's a neat song, great even, however sometimes I feel like it's more of a bridge between Dealer and NMG than it is a NMG song on its own, if that makes any sense to anyone whatsoever. Maybe it could've been in the backhalf where the sound of the record diversifies a bit, as the first 4 songs (minus it) are all very distinctly somber/bleak and Slapstick, while lyrically on the same pace, feels almost airy in comparison. Though, lyrically speaking, the song makes more sense in the forefront of the record, so maybe I'm talking out of my ass.
Kinda random, but I was listening to Daughter’s album Not To Disappear today and was noticing how similar Foxing’s Won’t Drown sounds to Numb. The urgent tempo, driving toms, bass line sound so similar (and so good).
Yeah Daughters is like a grindcore turned industrial rock band. Daughter is more like atmospheric indie folk type stuff And then there’s Daughtry but we don’t talk about them
