this dates me a bit but Untouchables came out when I was in 8th grade and it came out the day we had our class field trip to Six Flags and I was so nervous the store I bought music at would be sold out by the time we got home and was surprised to find my mom bought it for me so it was there when I got home. I also remember her buying me the Marshall Mathers LP in sixth grade and asking if we should listen to it in the car on the way home from the mall and I brilliantly said she probably wouldn’t be a fan so let’s not bother with that lmao
I liked almost everything about Lightning but the chorus felt like a weak point for me, but I liked it a lot more once I saw it in the context of the film tbh makes such a great first-half closer and the way the show cut out and switched locations worked great. Felt so “triumphant”
Bastardizer, Cold Blooded. Once an album they just let you know they could be an amazing straightforward (ish) alt-rock band. As in, the best one going. But of course I'm glad they aim higher than that. Something about the melody on Bastardizer has always given me a Coldplay vibe too.
I had a dream once that foxing released an alt country album. Woke up very flustered. Anyways I think won’t drown is my favorite foxing song.
i was gonna say cold blooded sounded like coldplay but theres another piano rock band i cant think of that it sounds more like...its killing me that i cant place it
Kinda bums me that the album has been out a while now and no Stereogum story (even to say it's out). No Pitchfork review. As Ian Cohen pointed out these guys have almost 4x the Spotify listeners that Iceage do (using them as a modern critics' darling band) and yet can't rate a mention, don't get booked for indie festivals etc. Foxing has eclipsed the bounds of emo well and truly -- but in sound only it seems, not in terms of earning exposure.
I have a very hot take and it’s that Beacons is the worst song on here. Every song is amazing, Beacons is just the least amazing out of the 10
NMG is one of my favourite albums ever and I thought they were basically doomed having to follow it up but yet again they’ve changed direction and released another classic. Genuinely don’t think there’s a bad track on this, and can’t get Beacons/title track/Bialystok/Cold Blooded out of my head atm. As much as I was looking forward to the Slipknot-inspired fifth album I think this sound really suits them haha
Beacons is an odd one - when it's loud, it's my second favourite on this album after Bialystok. When it's quiet, it sounds... off, for some reason. Can't put my finger on it. Outro is still one of my favourite moments on the album though. AH HAA HIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Totally agree with this - listened to it fairly quietly when it dropped at midnight on launch day and was a bit underwhelmed, but after every time I've blasted it since it's quickly become my favourite song on the album. Can't really explain it either but the chorus is just so big! Beacons is gonna be an absolutely elite live song (along with quite a few on this tbf!)
I adore NMG and DDTM…..but man I don’t care at all for Dealer or The Albatross. I’ve tried. I’m gonna try again today.
I cannot get into The Albatross for the life of me. I love Dealer to bits but I struggle to listen to it because it makes me feel really sad hah
I mean, pretty much every album sounds different, so I think that’s fair. These last two imo are far more ambitious than the first two
well there is that moment of twangy, almost banjo-y sounding guitars in Go Down Together, so the precedent is there now. agreed with won’t drown. Tied with heartbeats for me atop NMG.
I'm enjoying this a good bit yeah. Not hitting me like NMG or Dealer yet though. I also seem to be the only one that doesn't love Bialystok. it's catchy as fuck but I don't really like it.
I think Conor Murphy and Matty Healy are the best rock vocalists going. So versatile, sometimes they don’t even sound like themselves. But they always sound great. They are also almost impossible to sing along with.
it took NMG for me to really get into anything before that from them. I listened to Dealer and couldnt really get into it, then when NMG came out I was blown to heck obviously and then revisited Dealer and now love it. i dont go back to Albatross much but it still is a good one.
