Yeah the event was cool the viral marketing is neat. They crashed twitch too lol

Kinda shocking that they expected everyone to be able to download the update right after an event without a problem. They haven’t had an event work correctly since season 7 lol

I guess it would be impossible to expect everyone to be prepared enough to download an event and log in at the right time but there’s still better options out there.

Probably should have just made everyone go back to the start screen after the map was destroyed and have everyone downloaded the update after

Missed it as usual - I know everything went into a black hole but what is supposed to happen next? Surely nothing will happen for those still watching the black hole?

Yeah I figured whatever the event was, there'd be downtime after. No way they'd load right into a brand new map/game/whatever is happening. The suspense is perfect marketing. I'm assuming like 6-8pm EST there will be an available update for the new whatever.

I think it was nicely done. They didn't go overboard and it was short and to the point, and now the suspense will keep everybody interested the whole day to start conversation, and hopefully have the word travel to way more casual players or people who haven't played in a while/ever.

After seeing video of the event, the fact that players couldn’t go right into the next thing is kind of lame. I get like maybe fifteen minutes of down time, but you’d think Epic would have just released an earlier update, let people download, and activate the new stuff at event time.

That shit wasn’t worth months of waiting, and then more downtime. Feel bad for longtime fans. They better be getting a new map lol

I don't think it's feasible to do an earlier update though.
You either risk a fuck ton of people not being able to download in time for the event, causing a TON of upset people, or everything gets spoiled with people digging into the update before the event even happens. It's a lose-lose.

I think taking a bit of momentum away for downtime is better than people not realizing they had to download the update in advance. Plus if you release the update the info leaks and the hype is spoiled.

Yeah exactly. Tons of people trying to hop on at 1:45 and realizing their update will take them a half hour would be shitty for absolutely everyone.
This is all planned like this for a reason. Getting me more excited than if I just got to hop right in, honestly.

remember at the start of seasons 4 and 5 they had a queue to play for most of the day? I wonder if that's what's going to happen for people.

I'd be more hyped but I fucked up my log in and now I'm stuck at an error screen instead of the blackhole screen like most people. At least I can watch on twitch

My friend still hasn’t left the black hole lol. I was trying to log on five minutes prior to the event and was never able to get in. I’m glad it turned out that way

Yeah they should have released something prior to prepare people for a long wait. This is pretty standard for fortnite updates though. just at a different time

So did this happen in the middle of people playing??

nah they shut down normal playlists about 20 minutes before and replace them with an event playlist. It starts like a basic game of Team Rumble but a minute before the event starts weapons are disabled so everyone can be alive to watch.

I don’t necessarily think they are. It’s just downtime, but at a different time. I think the suspense is getting people more excited. I personally think this is a lot cooler than an event at 2pm, servers shut down at like 4am, and people jumping on whenever the downtime ends in the middle of the week. If it ends tonight and people can successfully log on/play, it seems like a much better time for that to happen.

Idk I disagree there. Four hours is a little ridiculous, kind of kills the hype to get back into it. They aren’t known for smooth rollouts though.

That’s fair! Definitely don’t want to seem like I’m trying to pick a fight or anything, btw!
The whole thing with the numbers right now is pretty cool imo

I don’t think this was supposed to be smooth. The numbers coming out occasionally means this was planned.

Confusing your fan base and toying with people for marketing is always shitty though

IMO while I agree the numbers etc are fully planned, they've got to just be something to keep people occupied and buy them time to roll out the update properly!
