Hey long time no see!

 

I see it with other states pretty often too but like Chase said Texas people have a strong (sometimes weird) sense of pride in their state.

Which is funny considering how divided we are when it comes to our major cities. (most Dallas residents hate Houston, vice versa, Austin's its own world, etc)

 

lol I guess it's just not something I connect with. I love where I'm from and it's impacted who I am, but with Texans it seems to be a very powerful and proud part of their identity that I don't notice as much with people from other states, at least not as vocally.

Our school system has a mandatory "Texas History" class which emphasizes that as well haha. There's a lot of different factors I think: that we were an independent country, that the Dallas Cowboys are "America's Team" (yuck), that it's a relatively big state, and the general indoctrination into "how much better we are" since school. Idk I used to be like that but toned down a lot and appreciate other places sooooo much more than Texas.

Still trying to convince my ex to move to Portland or LA so I can.

 

You see it with other places too, like with California, NYC, etc. It's just a matter of culture being different here in the same way that the northwest has its own culture, or new England or Midwest etc

Like there are plenty of places I would like to move to out of state, but I would still emphasize myself as a Texan, like putting up a Texas flag in my home and stuff

 

lol yeah that's probably true. I don't think it's a bad thing, I guess I have no pride whatsoever so I never get it personally haha

 

People, mostly rappers, are always going on and on about the zones in Atlanta. They take that shit very seriously.

 

Hip hop is another subculture that encourages strong pride in where you're from, down to the neighborhood

 

That's how I am too hahaha. Plus my mom's side of the family came here from Poland in the 40s which to me is so amazing and if I have pride in anything from my ancestry or heritage it's that. Not the state that gave America George Dubya.

 

I know Bankhead is Zone 3 because I have a friend that grew up there but I haven't a clue about the other ones.

 

It trips me out to think about not being raised in the south. I would be a completely different person and that's so crazy to think about.

That is cool! I wish I knew more about my family history. Most of my family are from southern California and I am too, but we moved away when I was like 8 before I could establish "pride" there and I hated the town we moved to so... I'm prideless lol
