Ignoring everyone else talking about current season stuff, I just got through S2E8 and holy shit the Danny/Karen stuff is so uncomfortable and wrong on so many levels. I could sense something was up when they had their first convo alone in the bar and was reaaaaally hoping that was just me reading it the wrong way. Only storyline in the whole show at has me scratching my head wondering what the writers were thinking.
I hated that Danny subplot. I was late to start this season, but I'm all caught up just in time for the finale. Been really enjoying it. Really don't know how the finale is gonna play out. Does one side or another actually succeed in securing the asteroid, or (more likely) does something disastrous happen, forcing opposing sides to sacrifice/work together to save a bunch of people? I'm really curious what happens with Margo. Maybe she comes up with the idea that saves everyone from the aforementioned disaster and is accepted back into the US at the end.
Have they confirmed whether there will be more seasons or if this is the last season? With the usual time skips I imagine we’re at the end of almost all the originals main characters. I wonder how long they had planned to go.
I think they planned 6 or 7? Not sure if it got renewed but I can’t imagine that end it so close to the planned amount of seasons.
The talk is it ending at season 6 and possibility going into season 7. It'll end in an alternate 2020's present or an alternate 2030's near future.
In my mind I have always assumed the payoff of this show is going to be when it is set in the present but we have cities on other planets and everything is futuristic
I think I'd be fine with 6 seasons. I don't want to get too far into the future. I like that it's still set during the time we've been alive.
Another plot point from Red Mars I am wondering we will eventually get into here: Earth descends into WW3 and chaos while Mars thrives.
oh my god this show is fucking incredible. I think I can say now this is hands down the best TV space sci-fi since DS9 (which Ron D Moore also wrote for)
i just wish there was a resolution to the discovery of life plot. Kelly wasn't even in this episode. I guess they must be saving that for season 5.
Ending with Dev on the edge of a crater of ice felt like a nod to that. Apparently it’s the same crater that Kelly was already looking for life in. Aleda hugging Margo really got me. What a great episode.
Midnight City is a pretty good early 2010's song to end it on. I thought for sure it was going to be Pumped Up Kicks.
If Dev, Ed, annd Miles aren’t put on trial at the start of next season, that’ll kill a lot of believability. I don’t care how much money you have, you don’t piss of Roscosmos and NASA like that. If Dani had died, I would’ve been distraught all weekend. They did Margo’s story so much justice. I never knew where they were going next with most of this episode. I think Aleida and Kelly anchor the next season.
what are they gonna do? Throw them in jail? Dev basically owns Mars now and has the loyalty of most people there. Everyone involved is never going back to earth. Good luck prosecuting them I also think Miles and Massey are going to have bigger roles next season. Massey was this season's MVP that did all the cool brave space stuff that the characters who are now old or dead used to do in previous seasons. Also Alex is going to be adult next season and will have a bigger role.
I love that in this show how there will be a small side character that has one line, and you look it up later and find out that is an actual person. Like that political aide for Gore that is rude to Daniel Stern's character that one episode is supposed to be Ron Klain, Who up until a year ago was Joe Biden's chief of staff.
The Russians have notably had no problem assassinating people. It’ll just feel inaccurate if they’re not held accountable somehow. “You won, but you won’t get to see how.” Would also lead to some killer conflict for Aleida on earth since at the moment, earth is now just a bank for the Mars storyline with Margo probably gone.
Solid season but easily my least favorite I think, it felt the least grounded in reality out of all the seasons. Perfect song to end it on.
