It's pickled vegetables, usually carrots, cauliflower, olives, celery, and sport peppers all marinated in olive oil. It's similar to a relish but the ingredients are not as roughly cut.

Lol I was referring to Ken's post, you beat me to replying.

However, what are onions doing on a French Dip.

Also that picked veggie stuff looks unappetizing

What are onions not doing on a french dip?

The sandwich I shared was basically bread + chicken + lettuce and some seasoning!

Honestly what sandwich shouldn't have onions

Ok I'll give you peanut butter sandwiches and Monte Cristos

I was referencing the first few sandwiches!

No sandwich should have onions because they are the literal worst, end of story

Force yourself to like them. Trust me. That's what I did. Then again, did you know I'm utterly insane?

The first few sandwiches were all simple: bread, peanut butter, jelly. bread, ground beef, swiss cheese, onions. hot dog, bun, sauerkraut, onions.

    1) my wife puts onions in lots of things and people say oh you can barely taste them, bullshit I can feel them and I do not like.

    2) hot dogs only deserve mustard and cheese (chili is acceptable if you are feeling frisky and wanna use a fork)

    3) fine good thread you WIN!

I used to hate onions. Now I can't live without them. Anyone who says you can barely taste them is crazy though (no offense to your wife).

Mustard is the best. I omitted it to make it look like less ingredients haha.

I'm not a big fan, either. Regular white rice is way better.

    Cooked or raw onions?
Because no sandwich should have raw onions

What about an Italian hoagie? Ham and cheese sub? Burgers? Hot dogs?

    Wrong.

Grilled is better, but depends on the sandwich

Plus raw red onion can be great in certain contexts

Ah, gotcha. I dunno if French Dips have onions or not. Maybe I'm thinking more of a cheesesteak. Similar sandwiches but French Dips are better because you got the au jus.

They usually do have onions. You could also dip a cheesesteak in au jus

Now we're talking. Except that most places that have cheesesteaks don't have au jus.

The best was when Schlotzsky's was serving the Bacon Beefy Cheedar Cheesy (which is exactly as it sounds but with an amazing chipotle sauce on it too) - They were also serving the French Dip at the same time. The BBCC with the au jus was BEAST.

I would put white or yellow onions on all of those. Raw red onion is very powerful and should be used very lightly... or cooked.

Here's the thing about Monte Cristo, most places use jam/jelly that isn't Grape. I like others flavors but definitely not like Strawberry or Raspberry

The french dip is basically just a classier cheesesteak. I can't decide which sandwich I like more. I love the raw horseradish on a french dip, but there's something about whiz and caramelized onions.

Have you ever had a really good pit beef sandwich? If you like french dips... those are even better.
