I'm feeling shame rn.

 

I recently got introduced to the sweet potato and my life has been fantastic ever since. The other day I made fish cakes, which I grew up eating, but I decided I'm old enough now to forego the status quo and I substituted what have always been white potatoes for sweet. It might just be an eastern Canada thing, but you boil cod and mash it up with onions and potatoes, mold them into patties, then cover them in flour and fry them. The sweet potatoes really gave the dish a new dimension

 

I love sweet potatoes. They make the best hash

Crispy diced sweet potatoes or butternut squash with fried onions, roasted jalapenos, cumin, and cilantro is a wonderful thing. I changed my friend's life with that dish, he brings it up everytime we talk about food haha. Just poach two eggs and put them on top or serve it with any kind of meat. Bangin'. Especially with a blackberry sage brown butter. Okay.. i gotta stop myself.

yap i need to eat some form of meat on Thanksgiving. it's just the core component of the meal we make, it'd legit be rude if i didn't haha

 

Surprisingly, you can - I stayed at a hotel that made their gravy with cornstarch. It was disgusting.

 

Those potatoes look phenomenal

 

They had some kind of white cheese in them it was amazing.

 

We have this good deli in town but the service has gotten so bad. they used to all be super nice and friendly and now they're like "sorry I took so long... I forgot you were waiting" or "sorry all we have is wheat bread. the rest is kinda old and gross..." like lol what?? thanks for the honesty I guess?

 

Do you really want old and gross bread though?

 

Haha no but if I was them I'd just say we were out of the others! it is funny tho cause the drive thru has a pole at the end so you don't pull up too close and it's so scraped you can tell so many cars have side swiped it. terrifies me every time I go!!

 

Wait... your deli has a drive thru?! haha I was picturing a deli like a deli counter in a supermarket.

 

Naw like a deli that has sandwiches and fried foods? more like a corner market kinda thing but they have deli in the name and I've never questioned it!

 

That makes a lot more sense haha
