Cherry coke definitely tastes the best out of a regular fountain, not a free style machine. Free style machines just aren't pure.

For me, Vanilla coke tastes too artificial... I'd be better off putting some vanilla extract or syrup in a coke and drinking it that way.

    Pepsi is an abomination.

What I really hate though is those Coke machines where they have like 8 million different flavors. I just want a regular Diet Coke and no matter what it never tastes right coming out of one of those machines.

Also, I just moved to Connecticut and it is impossible to find fountain sodas here. For better or worse in Indiana basically every place (gas station, store, cornfield) had a fountain machine and you could always get a 94oz soda for like some pennies and pocket lint. But not in Connecticut. It's like people care about their bodies here.

I will say that pepsi throwback is the only acceptable way to drink Pepsi. I wish Coke would go back to sugar.

Thank you. My girlfriend thinks I'm crazy because I always tell her: cherry coke at the movie theater, chik-fil-a, or anywhere that has it, is vastly superior to whatever the crap is that comes out of the freestyle machine. It's just not good. The syrup that's made by coca-cola with all of the flavor already in it, is always infinitely better than what gets mixed as it dispenses. I hate the freestyle machine.

What drives me nuts is that even the base flavors taste wrong. I don't care that you can make a billion different combinations if not even the standards taste terrible!

Do a blind taste test of coke (cherry is especially noticeable) from a freestyle vs coke from a 2 liter or out of a fountain at mcdonalds or chik fil a or anywhere really. You'll see.

They use Coke Zero or whatever for the Freestyle machine. Mystery solved y'all

But no I understand. I just expect that it'll be a tad different going in

Wait. Wait. Wait. You mean to tell me that my Diet Coke is not Diet Coke but instead Coke Zero. I will not stand for this.

Not to be "that guy" but just an FYI... Diet soda (artificial sweeteners) affects your blood sugar as much or more than regular soda (real sugar)

I'd like to see where you are getting that information. Not that I don't believe you (I did a cursory google search just to make sure my whole life hasn't been a lie) but I've had diabetes for 21 years and I can say, for me at least, that diet soda does not change my blood sugar in any drastic way but regular soda most certainly does.

There's some debate, of course, but here's one interesting study.

I will say, that I'm not suggesting drinking regular soda instead, and if you've been drinking diet and not noticing any problems, but you do notice problems with regular soda, then by all means, do what works for you. I just thought you might be interested since most of the people I know with diabetes think diet = safe/healthy alternative.

I love those machines! You can get so many varieties you wouldn't normally. I guess base flavors tasting different didn't bother me because I don't get them -- usually do like Peach Mello Yello or something. Though now that I'm thinking about it, I think I've had Vanilla Coke from one of those and it's still good.

I was fascinated by the variety at first too. Now, I'm just disgusted. Nothing tastes as it should.

I stopped drinking regular Coke when I saw all of those videos where people clean the nastiest stuff using Coke and I was like that can't be good for my stomach. I like the taste of Diet Coke better though.

    Thanks for linking this!

I've certainly always known diet soda wasn't great for me but it's interesting to see how it can contribute to the onset of things like type 2 diabetes (I have type one because I'm not a poser). So yeah I think I was mostly just confused at your wording because while drinking diet soda certainly doesn't help in maintaining and controlling proper glucose levels in the long term it doesn't cause the blood sugar spikes that drinking a normal soda does. So it might kill me in the long run but at least I only feel moderately shitty in the present!
