I made a kinda Greek surf and turf today. Made some tzatziki. Cooked some lamb and crab cakes. Served with a Greek salad I threw together. Also bought some dolmas to snack on
with the pita and dip while the meats were cooking. It was pretty pretty good

also finally got to use some of the tomatoes and mint we are growing for the first time in a dish. growing yr own food is cool as fuck. I hope the cucumbers we planted take off soon.

A grilled cheese with anything other than cheese is a melt.

 

You put tuna in a grilled cheese and still call it a grilled cheese? Nope, my friend, that's a tuna melt.

 

I understand this sentiment but disagree. I still call it grilled cheese w/ (insert ingredient here).

 

But, like, if you put a hamburger patty in between two pieces of bread with a slice of American cheese you'd call it a grilled cheese with hamburger?

Still a burger because burgers with other things don't have a designated title.

Grilled cheese with an additional ingredient has a designated title, melt.

 

Very real example: my basic grilled cheese is some commercial kimchi and slices of non dairy cheese and to me that’s a grilled cheese with kimchi. Your example did make me realize that I do call em patty melts, though, so now I have to rethink all of my ideals.

 

I'll call a melt a grilled cheese I don't care it's a pandemic during a climate crisis

 

I would like to be clear that I don't at all really think that you can't call a grilled cheese with an additional ingredient a grilled cheese.

I just wanted to give @phaynes12 a hard time.

Kimchi in grilled cheese seems rad.

Thoughhhhhhhhhhh kimchi, to me, falls into condiment territory. I don't think adding additional condiments to a grilled cheese disqualifies it from the grilled cheese moniker. And using non-dairy cheese also does not disqualify it.

I'm just saying there is precedence to call grilled cheese's with an additional main ingredient a melt.
