Finally getting my herbs and veggies today. Unfortunately they sold out of eggplant and zucchini, but maybe more will come in later. I’ll be so happy to have such fresh stuff all the time.

I pickled some jalapeños that were about to go. They came out fantastic

@alina I just bought a bunch of jalapenos that I plan on pickling. Care to share your method?

Super simple! I just heat up half vinegar half water, 3 ish cups total to make 2 mason jars worth. (I think you can also do all vinegar for a full pickle) with a tablespoons of sugar, couple tablespoons salt, several peppercorns, and a couple garlic cloves. Pour the boiling water mixture over sliced japalenos and wait a couple days. Voila!

that all can be adjusted to taste and you can add other spices in the pickling liquid but this is the pretty generic method I use for pickles and tomatoes too

Was inspired by @Ken and made this the other night. Shrimp, mussels, and candied bacon in a spicy broth. Presentation isn't the greatest, I blame the beers on that, but it tasted amaaaaazing

Wow shoutout to BA for showing how to make Ukrainian pelmeni to the world. This is what we would eat when there was nothing else for dinner, with sour cream and dill. Now it’s a delicacy, especially since I can’t get the really good ones from home anymore haha

Is there a difference between Ukranian ones and the ones that Wikipedia tells me are Russian?

    Will check that out.

It’s where they came from because Ukraine was part of the USSR. So same thing really

Yep! I moved to the US when I was 7, am 26 now. I just visited this winter right before the coronavirus pandemic, luckily so I got to taste all the good food again as an adult!

If you can one day, I recommend going for around Rozhdestvo (the orthodox Christmas on Jan 7)! Kiev is soooo lively then, the whole downtown area is basically a festival for a week or longer. Or the summer because summer in Ukraine is beautiful too
