If you are cooking with that boxed Chicken/Beef Stock...you need to switch to Better than Boullion IMMEDIATELY. Price is about the same, but with the BTB, that dollar is stretched like crazy. For 1 quart of water, add 1.5 tablespoons of this sludgy delicousness and you will never go back to that boxed junk...

Christina from BA made a broccoli Reuben and I used it as inspiration for a clean the fridge meal. Did a spicy mayo, mozzarella, roasted broccoli green onion, and fried egg. Roasted some honey nut squash (another thing I bought bc of BA) as a side. Super easy and really good.

This stuff is great, and for vegans there's options as well. My aunt turned me on to the stuff (she's vegan) and I couldn't believe the umami levels she was able to get in her dishes with this stuff.

I made oyster stew for my grandparents today and it turned out pretty good. my grandpa’s family always had it on his parents’ anniversary growing up, and he seemed pretty pleased with my version of it (had two full bowls and one top off of oysters cause he had “extra” broth), even if he thinks black pepper is spicy and I threw a couple red chili flakes in there.

I did a homemade chicken noodle soup, but used Pho noodles, added a bit of soy and topped with green onions...came out tasting great and felt more asian than the traditional american version, which I'm not a huge fan of.

Also depends on what you'll use it for...if you are cooking a roast, or something in the oven for an extended period of time, maybe look into a probe style thermometer with an alarm...this one is cheap and has great reviews.

Thermoworks thermometers are the best. We use them at my job (work in food manufacturing) and they’re very accurate/last forever.

Thanks for the input everybody! I will be using it mostly for meat I cook in the oven so I don't need anything too crazy and these are all great suggestions.

Had my first meal cooked with the gf since moving in last night and it was surprisingly good! Made some delicious burgers, sauteed up some mushrooms, added swiss and made a quick sauce based on what we had in the fridge (mayo, mustard). Simple but delicious. Cooked the burgers in my cast iron which gave them a nice browning.

Next week we wanna try a spam and egg burger.

When cooking burgers in a pan, I've found that pouring a little beer in the pan with the patties can really help the flavor too :)

Ahhh wish I had known this since we were drinking a beer while cooking! At what point during cooking do you do this?

sounds awesome. Cast iron makes the best burgers.
