I've come up with too many options for New Years dinner. Idk how I'm going to narrow it down.

What are you thinking of doing? I'm trying to figure out Christmas dinner now too. I think I've got my main dish and starch but struggling with the rest

Now I’m relieved that I couldn’t come up with any other dish ideas for you, lol. What’s the full list? I’d be happy to tell you what grabs me the most. Keeping the dietary restrictions in mind too of course.

I want to serve two appetizers and one entree.

    For appetizers, I'm considering:
-French onion crostini or soup (made the crostini last year)
    -NE Clam Chowder
    -Steak Tartare
    -Mini Lobster Rolls
-Frisee salad with candied bacon and poached egg
    -Lobster Deviled Eggs
-Mixed greens dressed with champagne vinegar & peach vinaigrette with toasted nuts, goat cheese, & bread crumbs
-Garlic bread topped with burrata, pesto, and prosciutto

    Entrees:
-Red wine braised beef w/ au gratin potatoes, broccolini & carrots, red wine gravy, and parsley vinaigrette
-Crab cakes w/ pommes frites and tartar sauce
-Red wine and black bean braised Mexican lamb w/ sauteed baby vegetables
-Chicken Parm w/ some sort of pasta idk
    -Veal bolognese w/ garganelli
-Mushroom, apsaragus & pea risotto with steak and poached egg
-Ancho rubbed salmon with black bean puree, rice, and guacamole

I'm planning on having a small buffet setup for people to snack on early in the evening with olives, meats, cheeses, shrimp, etc. but I definitely want to have three plated courses + dessert.

I'm still trying to come up with ideas and now I have too many good ones.

I'd like to come up with a cohesive theme for the evening, but that's been a challenge too.

Ok just going for an immediate reaction and not thinking about it too hard, I’m grabbed by:

Mini lobster rolls (loved that idea when you first mentioned the meal
    Mixed greens with champagne vinegar

The french onion or clam chowder both also sound good if you want one of the appetizers to be warm.

    Red wine braised beef
Red wine and black bean braised lamb
    Mushroom risotto

Everything sounds great, I’m just trying to imagine this specific meal and what I would love to try together. A lot of it also depends I guess on what the entree is, because I would love the tartare if the entree was crab cakes but maybe not want to double up if you go for the beef.

I have no idea if that’s helpful but I’m hungry now either way!

oh fuck, that all sounds amazing.

I'd be impartial to the clam chowder and one of the salads, then the bolognese but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Thank you both for the feedback. I don't know what I am doing, but you helped me eliminate a couple options.

I had a food mill and used it once. I put a hand-held potato ricer on my christmas list this year.

I've seen them be used for making tomato sauce too. I could never justify purchasing one though. I have heard to go with a restaurant quality one, though, as the home ones are typically pretty small.
I keep meaning to get a ricer for making lefse but always forget. Next year maybe

Lmao, I get it now. There are 2 options, both are 5 course meals. Just shows how fancy I am. I have never had a 5 course meal :crylaugh:

Can't go wrong with either. I think my gut is saying option 2 if I had to pick. @Ken
