    Goddamn, man child Prestigious

You don't sound bitter! It's annoying af that someone can swoop in and commodify someone else's culture and profit so much while those who are part of the culture don't get that. I'm not sure where the line is when it comes to appreciating a cultures food and when it becomes skeevy but it sucks. Like when a white guy gets applauded for his ~creative Asian fusion restaurant and his new take on a cultures food or something like naw. Food is such a huge part of culture that the appropriation of it is bound to be a sensitive and frustrating issue for sure

I had Panera for the first time in a long time and it was actually really good. I was very surprised.

I never dislike my food at Panera, I just feel that for the money, there's a million other options that are better.

    Anyways, what did ya get?

I generally feel the same way, but today it was perfect. Had the half turkey avocado BLT and it was perfectly made, bacon was crisp, avocado was perfectly ripe, tomatoes were fresh and juicy, etc., and a cup of the summer corn chowder which was tasty and loaded with vegetables. The worst part was the chips which I found to be absurdly greasy haha. Gonna get the fruit cup next time.

thanks gorl. its what i grew up with and to see it repackaged as 'wow, new!', i feel a certain way. almost like gentrification for food lol. i appreciate the appreciation for the culture, but ugh! why did it have to be a white dude from vermont

    Still A Threat Prestigious

If the food is amazing and made with love and respect I personally don’t really care who made it (within reason). But I understand the frustrations too. The constant rewarding of white mediocrity (or, in Europe, central/northern European mediocrity with regards to food from other European countries and countries across the world) in the restaurant industry is a problem.

EDIT: With rewarding I do not mean like “I eat the mediocre pizza made by Germans in my village because that’s what I have access to”, but rewarding in terms of opportunities to grow the restaurant into a chain, ‘critical acclaim’ and so on despite obvious mediocrity.

when you’ve already filled the bowl with cereal, realize you have no milk, and can’t commit to eating it dry.

I’ve had the whole 13 year old immigrant who’s being told his food stinks by his classmates experience and I have never been as offended by anything food related in my life as I am by cereal with water
