Food Thread: Battle of the Menus

Welcome to the Food Thread's Battle of the Menus. Here's an opportunity for all us aspiring restaurateurs who don't have the good fortune to be friends with rich, angel investors to make up our ideal restaurant menu.

Rules, you ask?

Fuck rules!

But you should try to keep things to 35 menu items divided however you'd like. Want 34 types of bourbon and saltine crackers? @Ken will tell you that that is not a real restaurant and then you will secretly cry because you desperately want his approval.

You don't have to participate but you should read each menu and then tell the author what you loved. Place fictional orders. Be sad that you can't have the food unless you cook it yourself or go to the place the menu item was plagiarized from.

My table is ordering the Cuban egg rolls to start and then moving to the Korean BBQ Sliders as another appetizer. Probably the Mexican lasagna too. For dinner I'd have the pork tenderloin or the flat iron steak. Your whole menu sounds amazing. I love how chili pepper-centric it is.

Oh, I'll be having that German chocolate beer cake too.

On a separate visit, I'd definitely get the pretzel appetizer and the brisket sandwich just for myself.

Great menu!

My table would start with the calamari and the bone marrow. Both of which sound fantastic. I love the chimichurri and remoulade flavors you have. I'm ordering a frisee salad for myself, I love frisee with bacon/pancetta and a poached egg, as you can see from my menu. I'm having the duck as my main course. I'm also hoping the table splits an order of the wild boar ragu as that sounds divine. Is the mushroom incorporated into the pasta dough or how does that work?

 

@mr_november on a separate visit, I'd definitely get the lobster chowder and the scallops.

I'm gonna do an eclectic bistro type place too, it's just the easiest to do and have it be structured but also flexible

apps
- cornmeal crusted calamari with aioli, marinara sauce and lemon wedge
- hummus with country toast and crudite
- meatball trio (sweet and sour, traditional marinara, that's a spicy meatball)
-nachos (cheddar cheese, jalapenos, pico de gallo, crema, sour cream, guacamole)
-chicken skewers

salads
-Caesar salad
- butternut squash salad with craisins and roasted grapes
-kale salad with craisins and pecans
- Caprese salad

sandwiches/burgers, all come with mixed pickled vegetables; also side of fries/sweet potato fries/side salad
-brioche burger with cheddar cheese, grilled mushrooms, caramelized onions, bacon, aioli
- pulled pork sandwich with Carolina slaw
- sourdough grilled cheese with gruyere and caramelized onions
-fried chicken sandwich with aioli and slaw

entrees-
-maple bourbon pork chop with mashed sweet potatoes and cabbage
-quinoa bowl with mixed seasonal veggies and avocado
-rosemary half chicken with rosemary potatoes and brussel sprouts
-teriyaki salmon with bok choy and jasmine rice
-cajun spiced steak with mashed potatoes and spinach
-shrimp scampi

-chocolate bourbon pecan pie
-maple bourbon bread pudding
- NY cheesecake

- homemade Chipwich
-fruit plate with granola and yogurt

 

This places sounds great! I like the diversity of your offerings. The meatball trios and your desserts are especially tempting. Sandwiches too. I like the grilled cheese a lot, it just missed the cut for me.

People are writing fictional menus. Up to 35 total items in any order or shape or way that you want. Can include cocktails, tapas, raw bar, whatever. Then we're discussing different ideas and then we'll vote on the best sounding restaurant.
