Anyone ever done an oven roasted skin-on pork shoulder before? Any tips for getting a nice crackling?
My quick cranberry sauce recipe: 1 12oz bag cranberries 3/4 cup sugar 1 orange zested and juiced 1 lemon zested and juiced 1oz orange liquor (Grand Marnier, Dry Curaçao) Pinch of Salt, black pepper and nutmeg to taste Add everything to a sauce pan cook until the cranberries burst and sauce thickens. Let cool and refrigerate til its turkey time.
No plates posted??? Damn. Well, unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of mine so I’m stealing Matt’s. Only difference is my plate had a huge ass leg since that’s my favorite part lol. I don’t know what my stepdad did but this was my favorite Turkey I’ve ever had so far. classic mash, my classic green beans, homemade Italian sausage dressing, sweet/savory cinnamon baby carrots, actual stuffing was my mom’s rice and mushroom recipe, olivier salad (basically potatoes, eggs, green peas, good quality bologna, dill pickles, boiled carrots, mayo) and of course I had to make my tomato salad. A bit of classic a bit of Ukrainian tradition.
@Daniel ^ YUM. I'm going to make a beef stew this weekend as I got a shit ton of carrots and mushrooms and the like in my produce basket. Was your turkey smoked? Looks like it.
My mom made the most amazing whoopie pies/black moons for Thanksgiving. The cake was so moist and the cream melts in your mouth. Easily better than any bakery's I've tried. Wish I got a picture. She used to be a pastry chef before I was born. Would love for her to open her own shop but I guess the cost of supplies and ingredients isn't worth it
No just roasted, we didn't eat any of the dark meat on Thanksgiving so it all went into the soup. I tried a new simple recipe from NYT and it really had no flavor, I was pretty bummed, but the soup was fantastic at least.
Anyone have a good gingerbread cookie recipe? I'm not good at baking/cooking but I want to try making some for a party tomorrow
https://www.seriouseats.com/gingerbread-cookies I used this recipe last year, the dough is definitely a little hard to work with since you don’t chill it but I just used a lot of parchment and it worked out. They tasted great and were a good mix of soft but snappy.
tbh I have a kitchenaid so I don’t really remember how hard it was to mix, I do remember it being a pretty wet/sticky dough so it might be tough to mix by hand.
since the recipe calls for creaming the butter and sugar it will be very hard to get it to the right consistency without a mixer. Doesn't mean it can't be done or the cookies won't be good, just the dough will be more dense than the recipe's intentions. also on a side note, Stell Parks is such a wonderful recipe writer and her write-ups before the actual recipe are always worth a read. also highly recommend her book for any and all American baking recipes
The gingerbread cookies came out pretty good! Next time we will make them a little thicker because these were more like ginger snaps, but everyone at the party was loving them. I’m enjoying the leftovers with coffee.
Made Claire Saffitz's Blueberry Buckle for my mom's birthday, and not to toot my own horn, but beep beep. It was fucking fantastic. Highly recommend, very simple recipe.
stuck in the house and we can’t go to our original Christmas Eve plans so ended up putting this together instead.
