just finding out too trader joes has some great sauces for sure though i like that spicy cashew one a lot
I think I've had chic-fil-a like once ever and was always curious about the sauce so glad to know I got a pretty great alternative without supporting that company
Salsa day! Also, finally made a steak in our new apartment. Our oven doesn't have a vent hood and our fire alarm is soooooooo loud so was pretty nervous. Dry brined in the fridge for a day, reverse seared so it wouldn't be in the pan for too long smoking up my kitchen. All windows and doors in house opened. Didn't set the fire alarm. 10/10
Probably bad but I don't think I've ever not removed the batteries from the fire alarms in an apartment for that reason lol
i didn’t have any twine so the stuffing predictably leaked out a bit, so i decided to tear the pork up instead of slice it as traditional, still rocked though
What a fucking terrible photo. But blistered cherry tomato, pancetta, risotto. I found a recipe that had me put creme fraiche in it after it was done which was weird but delicious.
I just had the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Molly's family came to visit us a couple months ago and they stayed at a hotel that had a restaurant in it. There was some mix-up or something so the hotel gave them a gift card to the restaurant. Molly's family didn't end up using it so they gave it to us. We decided to go to brunch there today to use the gift card. It's like right on the beach so they have like an outdoor seating area so you can look over the water and that's nice but it's like your typical, overpriced, restaurant that caters to tourists. And like, I try not to be judgmental having worked in the restaurant industry for like a decade. I understand that shit happens. But like, nobody came to get drink orders for 20 fucking minutes. And we were trying to be patient and just enjoying sitting outside and, like, I hate being a bother. If anybody had come out at all during that time I would maybe have politely asked, but literally not a single person on the waitstaff came out. When the waitress finally did come out she was apologetic took our orders and the appetizer came out relatively quickly so I thought we were back on track. But then between the appetizer and the mains we waited another 40 minutes, again with no waitstaff in site. Also, this was brunch, and their brunch menu sucked, but they didn't even have coffee! And when our food finally came it was a fucking disaster. I got huevos rancheros and it was very obviously a store bought flour tortilla that they had briefly put on the flat top, black beans straight out of a can, and the wettest eggs I've ever seen. Also there was just like a puddle of sour cream slowly spreading out across the plate. Also, it came with like a tablespoon of "fresh fruit" that was cut as if it were ice cream toppings. And every single thing was so bland. Nothing was seasoned, there were no salt or pepper shakers on the table, there was a roast tomatillo salsa that tasted like water. Like I ate half of one of the tortillas and an egg and then just gave up. My wife got a burger and it was also incredibly wet and the meat tasted of nothing, again no seasoning. We ended up just eating her fries together as our meal because they were the only thing palatable. And like, again, the waitress never came to check on us. And I have never sent anything back unless it's like egregiously wrong or unsafe so I wasn't gonna send it back I just wanted to leave but then again it took forever to get a check and I had to get up and go into the restaurant and ask for the check. And like, I never know what to do in these situations. Like the server can't be held accountable for the kitchen and I'm not trying to fuck with someone's livelihood and not tip them. But like, what do you do in that situation? I mean thankfully we had the gift card, cause this all came out to 80 bucks cause we also had drinks (having a beer instead of coffee was probably a mistake) and so I didn't have to pay too much out of pocket (but it still felt like I was paying too much). I didn't really want to like talk to a manager and get anyone in trouble so I just tipped 20 percent (on the pre-gift card amount) and wrote THIS WAS A REAL BUMMER. Fuck me.
I was really bored this weekend so I decided to slow cook like 3.5 lb of chicken yesterday. Started off with making my own salsa by roasting a tomatoes, tomatillos, onions, poblanos, and jalapenos, then blended them all up with fresh cilantro and garlic. Seared every piece of chicken after coating them in a quick dry rub (cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, smoked paprika and oregano) and avocado oil. Let them cook in the crock for like 4.5ish hours on high and it's so damn good. The chicken absorbed all the salsa flavor and I definitely made the right choice using fattier thighs with some white meat for this. The fat really helps retain the flavor and moisture better if it was just white meat. Also put just enough spice in the salsa to give it some heat, so it doesnt even need hot sauce on it.
Oooohhhh, I do a very similar thing with pork shoulder. I've never done it with chicken, I'll have to try this.
I've done a few 8 hour pork butts in a somewhat similar way with a dry rub, topped with just diced jalapenos, onions, garlic, and a bath of orange juice, but wanted something slightly healthier with chicken that I could use throughout the week. Definitely worth a try!
Been eating a lot of traditional Chex Mix lately, they advertise it has more flavor now and they ain’t lyin.
Went out tonight cause my gf graduate esthetician school. I don’t know why every picture is sideways but whatever you get the idea.
