Just got a food processor with a wedding gift card, bout to chop the shit outta everything. Probably going to try some of these NYT cookie week recipes.
think we figured out the best dough stretching technique (even though it's a premade round from Trader Joe's - next goal is to make our own). before adding arugula after adding arugula bonus reaction from one of our friends/neighbors when we sent him and his girlfriend photos
Christmas desserts I made: I made another pumpkin crunch because it was a smash hit with my family at Thanksgiving. This one came out way better. A couple changes I made- Instead of using yellow cake mix like the recipe calls for, I used a chai cardamom cake mix from a company named Bake Away. I also added a little bourbon vanilla extract in the topping. Both mods elevated it. Blew the last one out of the water. I may make this a yearly thing I also made gingerbread blossom cookies. Bottoms got a little dark but they still came out good. Cookies came out soft and chewy which is how I like them. I also used snickerdoodle Hershey’s Kisses to top them which made for a solid combo Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and good eats!
Not for NYE, but I had a weirdly specific craving this morning for a pizza steak so I just made these for lunch. Been a while since I’ve had any kind of cheesesteak. Jim’s has nothing to worry about, but for an at-home sandwich I’m very happy with it
Taking a break from cooking for NYE but I did reverse sear a dry aged standing rib roast over the weekend for xmas. First time ever doing one. Was incredible and I think I cooked it nearly perfectly. Was even great the next day reheated. I failed terribly at yorkshire pudding though, pretty sure I didnt have my cast iron/oil at a high enough temp but we'll get em next time.
Just bought this baby secondhand. Apparently it's a great model? Google thinks it's a K5a but idk for sure. But low-key I just liked the avocado color. My fave color is the matcha one but I'm not out here trying to pay $500 for a new one as someone who doesn't cook or bake all that frequently. It works but needs a lil TLC
A couple of things I cooked lately that I enjoyed: - Shepards (cottage) pie and cauliflower cheese... (For my parents at the holidays... I don't really like cauliflower cheese but it's a classic British dish that is exactly as it sounds - sub macaroni for cauliflower). - Some jerk chicken - A good steak night.
One of the better steaks / red wine sauces I've made but it made me angry at how much it cost. It was just a normal grocery store strip, and I don't remember the exact per lb cost, but it was outrageous compared to just a year ago. Cost of living makes me mad every time I want to cook something now - A privileged whine I know when it features steak, but shit is just getting stupid price wise now. Won't cook something like this as frequently for sure.
Made a stuffed pork tenderloin and a roasted garlic bean puree last night that came out awesome. I struggle with 'finesse' and making things neat, so I was happy I was able to get the tenderloin cut open, stuffed, and tied to where it held it's shape. Made a sauce that I poured on after - it looked better before that went on.
