I failed epically at making tortilla española this morning so now my confidence in my cherry pie making ability has been shaken! So idk idk!!! I know those two things aren't remotely the same lol but hard to feel confident going in when a recent dish turned out not great
Are you wanting to do it 100% from scratch or like make the crust and buy the filling or vice versa? It's not really cherry season so getting decent fruit might be tough. I would do a practice run if you're doing everything from scratch, but it's not super difficult.
I was gonna try to make it all homemade but with either canned or frozen cherries. But TBH looking at the different crust recipes is really intimidating!
Does anybody else do an untraditional Thanksgiving menu? Never cared much for turkey/stuffing/etc so remembering that I have free will to make whatever I want has benefited me greatly as an adult
I have traditional Thanksgiving with my dad's side on Thanksgiving, and then I have untraditional Thanksgiving with my mom the Saturday after personally
anyone have any coffee grinding tips? i have a basic 3-speed Mr. Coffee grinder and am looking at picking up a reusable lid for the Nespresso Vertuo machine our apartment complex gave us. the instructions for the reusable lid recommend using a medium-fine grind for your coffee beans, but my grinder only does coarse, medium, and fine. i'm wondering if there's a way to get somewhere between medium and fine using the grinder i have or if i just have to give up and buy a new grinder.
Lemon Garlic Roast Chicken With Squash Recipe Made this NYT Cooking recipe last night, but right when I was about to put it in the oven we realized our gas was out in the whole apartment. I had to pivot to the air fryer and it kinda worked still. I don't think there was supposed to be so much liquid.
Using this recipe for the filling and bake instructions. I chickened out and used store bought crust tho since I've never baked a pie before and I got intimidated. It's baking now!
I love an unorthodox thanksgiving If your current one just has a blade then you should look into burr grinders. It will give a much more consistent size distribution and you'll have better control over the size of the grind in general so you'll be able to get that medium-fine size you're looking for. Manual or electric, burr is the way to go.
The last few years it's been just my wife and I as we chose not to see family and I didn't want to do a massive turkey for 2. I try to do some kind of bird so last year I did duck and I've done a small roast chicken and quails before. I do like the fixings though so we had mashed potatoes and veg so not really all that untraditional but not the usual turkey + a million sides.
I watch a lot of great British bake show so I'm terrified of a soggy bottom! But we will see. It also turns out my glass pie pans are all 9.5 instead of 9 so I had to use a metal one I had. A lot of little things kept going wrong like that oop
Sounds tasty! I've done a roasted chicken twice in the past. Duck I imagine would be nice and definitely fits the bill for a decadent Thanksgiving main.
Gotta make stuffing for a Friendsgiving tomorrow. Drop your recipes. I've made it a bunch of times in a bunch of different ways, but can't decide what I want to do.

Made this easy Claire Saffitz recipe for tomorrow, but you know I had to steal a piece first. Damn it's good, highly recommend as a low effort holiday recipe.
Usually don’t go visit family for thanksgiving so did a nice short rib bolognese and it turned out fabulous, definitely recommend
My family always puts me in charge of making desserts for Thanksgiving every year. These were this year’s offerings: 1. Made a pumpkin crunch. It’s a common dessert in Hawaii that’s usually made for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. Very similar to a dump cake but with other fixings. This one was the favorite of my family 2. Made a pumpkin streusel cake with a maple glaze. Came out a lot better than I thought it would 3. And of course I made a basic pumpkin pie. It doesn’t look pretty but it was definitely the best pumpkin pie I’ve done. My wife made the crust and absolutely killed it
Take 2 on the cherry pie for Thanksgiving number 3. I was hoping to use a mix of sweet and sour cherries but due to a series of life stressors wasn't able to get ingredients until today and the one place that wasn't absolutely obscenely overcrowded for black Friday only had sweet cherries. I also had a mild mental breakdown at one point in the baking process. It was giving
