The music supervisor for the Yellowstone universe definitely stood up like Michael Keaton's Batman upon hearing "If You Only Knew."
I listened to this and pretty much agree with the sentiment that it's offensively inoffensive. Some weird vocal stuff and distracting mixing decisions throughout, but nothing I outright hate. I like "Of All People" and think "Window" and "Asking for a Friend" are great tracks. The rest of this...I can't really imagine reaching for over other FF material. I genuinely appreciate a short record from them though, that might get a little replay out of me just to see if it grows.
There were just zero songs on this album that grabbed me on first listen. Only other Foos record I can say that about is Concrete & Gold, which has typically been the one I drop at the bottom of my rankings.
I think seeing the negative reaction to this probably helped with my first listen, because I went in expecting the worst and came away with...mild enjoyment? It'll definitely wind up near the bottom of my rankings for them, but I can still see myself throwing it on a bunch this summer. I do love "Of All People", though.
Concrete and Gold at least has “Run,” which I think is miles better than anything on here. Tough to defend anything else on there.
It’s questionable why they played Child Actor on SNL UK. Of All People was right there. I do like this album better than Concrete, but this album doesn’t have a Run or a Sky is a Neighborhood so that hurts it too.
Why do the vocals sound like Dave recorded over the top of a vacuum cleaner? I've only listened once, but after how good But Here We Are was, this feels like a major let-down.
SNL UK performance of "Child Actor" really made that chorus and how heavy-handed the lyrics of the song as a whole are. Yeesh. Surprised to see as much positive reception for this as I am.
