Damn. They cleaned up. MAM still rules. I think it’s probably their trippiest album. So many cool guitar parts throughout it and the backing vocals are so sick.
Finished my discog run today. My top 10 Foo songs: 1.) My Hero 2.) Run 3.) White Limo 4.) Everlong 5.) Arlandria 6.) Low 7.) Aurora 8.) Rope 9.) No Way Back 10.) Stacked Actors Honorable Mention: Gimme Stitches Super duper difficult thing to do.
Stacked Actors is suuuuuch a good fucking song. It came out when I was finishing high school and my band coved the hell out of that song. It's so much fun to play, and probably very underrated in their catalogue of hits.
It’s bonkers how good the deep cuts on There Is Nothing Left To Lose are. Half of that album could probably crack my top 10 foo songs of all time.
I love the end of Headwires. something about the "sun is on Arlandria today" bit always gets me teary
After revisiting TINLTL more often recently, it might honestly be my favorite Foos album. Front to back great tracks.
Oh yeah, the full band half of In Your Honor also has a lot of bangers. Dave goes hard on the album and I've never really appreciated it until I just revisited it. Admittedly, I was not into the album for years. I never got into the acoustic stuff. Still haven't haha.
Ah man. The acoustic stuff is great imo. Always loved how good Dave sounded as a singer and a screamer
i generally don't like acoustic music, and that side of the album isn't my favorites of theirs, but yeah there are some great songs on it
I think IYH is like 6/10. Some songs work on both ends, but the big problem is there no middle of the road, which is where I think works really well in something like TINLTL. He’s of the mindset on there that it either has to be a slow, contemplative acoustic ballad or a stadium anthem, minus “Cold Day In The Sun.” There’s some classics on there and then there’s, to me, some all-time duds like “Resolve” and “The Last Song.”
I *love* acoustic music but didn't love what they did with the second half of In Your Honor. That said, Skin and Bones live acoustic album is incredible.
I remember feeling pretty let down when In Your Honor came out. I was thinking it was gonna be like my new Mellon Collie for that decade. Especially when Best of You was released as the lead single. I had built up the anticipation for that album to an unobtainable expectation. When it came out I just couldn’t get into half of the tracks on each disc. Dave was just too shouty on a lot of tracks then too quiet on others. I dunno. It made for an exhausting listen trying to get through both discs. I still put that album down there at the bottom with Sonic Highways. I’m not big on concept albums and bands getting too experimental. Just give me your best 3-4 minute poppy rock songs.
I remember seeing the video for best of you on TV and being blown away. Side note: I remember In Your Honor being one of the albums that had that sony rootkit stuff on it.
It's not one of their best, but I really like "Virginia Moon." I think Dave's voice goes well paired with a female artist.
