I'm with you on this. I really don't know how this will play out but I hope it's ultimately in whatever way brings them the most happiness. On the one hand I could see this being the way the band ends because of Taylor's role in it. But on the other hand the thing to remember most about the Foo's is that they are ALL family, all six of them, and I can't imagine the remaining five not remaining in each others tight orbits. I'm sure through this grieving process they will need each other more than their families in some cases. And I'd like to think that once they've gone through the stages of grief that they will still have this insane pull to be together all the time, whether playing music or not.
I can only imagine that Taylor would want them to keep going. I mean if I remember correctly, he, himself, wanted the band to be the biggest band in the world.
Taylor's enthusiasm and energy was always palpable. He's a drummer that you really can never forget, and there really wasn't going to be many drummers that could step into Dave's shoes, but since the start its been clear that he was one of those drummers.
it’s just impossible to imagine. as much as the band is wrapped up in dave, it’s really the trio of him, nate and taylor that makes the band. seeing them with, like, jon theodore or whatever (who i love, no shade lol) would definitely feel *odd*, if nothing else
Do yourself a favor and don't look at the Studio 666 trending tweets. Scroll far enough and you'll get into awful conspiracy theory territory.
I think as fans, and not just fans but people who have been deeply affected emotionally by music that we love (which is what it should do), I think it’s okay to selfishly wonder if they will continue. This band has gotten me through a lot, especially when I was younger, and this really has fucked with me today. I agree that speculating is kinda pointless but having these thoughts of what is going to happen next is reasonable. These dudes are all so damn talented and they’ve carved such an iconic place for themselves in rock history and in our lives. The speculation for me is also pointless right now because we don’t know how we will feel as fans in a few months, so it’s impossible to imagine how the band will feel. As much as I would love to have a cathartic moment seeing them live this summer and maybe being able to celebrate Taylor’s life, I also realize it’s still fresh and it may just feel wrong having like Chad Smith or Matt Cameron or someone tour with them. I think once we hear from the group in the coming weeks, we’ll start to get a clearer picture of what will happen. I can see this going either way.
Definitely think the Foo Fighters will continue, but it's undeniable that Taylor was a huge part of the band. I just think that the rest of the band playing with each other again will be something they will want to do and will help with the healing process.
Yeah, I don’t want to come off as a scold. As said, it’s natural to wonder what’s next, especially since they were like a well-oiled machine with their output and touring post-lockdown. I expect that this will be a long, thought-out process of what comes next, rather than an immediate end like when MCA died with the Beastie Boys.
Ugh I can't stand the Daily Mail so not going to link it but they just posted a claim from "witnesses" as to cause of death.
I've thought a lot about this part, too, and was thinking that Taylor's drum tech would probably be the most suited to fill in because that dude would know every in and out for the show and would know how to play everything because beside keeping Taylor's set functioning at all times he's also expected to know how to step in if something happened during a live show. I may be completely wrong about his, but many times that how drum tech's operate.
Dave's gonna keep making music one way or another. The only thing I know for sure is it's not gonna be the same whether the FF name continues or not.
Every couple years a musician I love dies unexpectedly and I make a playlist of my favorite songs of theirs to listen to nonstop for like the next couple of weeks. I did this with Tom Petty and Chris Cornell. The fact I'm gonna do this with a drummer shows how elite Taylor Hawkins was.
Aurora, Live-in Skin and MIA! Love the record so much. My parents bought the CD (rock appreciators) and never used the temporary FF tattoo that came with it, same as the album cover. On my 18th birthday I said fuck it and put it on and went to school. Great times
Wasting Light is my fav Foo album because I got to see them for the first time on that tour and I loved the doc, but There Is Nothing Left is probably second for me.
I’ve been on a huge coheed kick lately and have been really getting into them for the first time and I somehow just found out Taylor recorded the drums for NWFT. The little coincidences in life are fuckin weird man.
