Making A Fire and Cloudspotter are definitely my top two from this, but I enjoy the whole thing front to back.
still really don't like this :/ probably in my bottom 3 Foos. will always await their next one with anticipation though
Finally listened. I still really don't like Waiting on a War very much, and Shame Shame is one of my least favorite Foo Fighters songs ever, but I do like album the most for the part. I love Making a Fire, the title track, No Son of Mine, Holding Poison and Love Dies Young. Something about Cloudspotter isn't clicking for me yet, I don't really like the chorus, but I don't exactly dislike it. I'm never really into Dave's acoustic songs so Chasing Birds isn't for me I'd say this is pretty mid-tier for them
Cloudspotter is easily my least favourite. Dave falls into the songwriting trap of repeating lyrics over and over so frequently, it's frustrating. It always leaves you wanting more.
It’s definitely fun. Didn’t blow me away and I probably won’t put it into regular rotation but it was a fun listen. Shame Shame and Waiting on a War were interesting single choices though...
This but without the last part. They've made too many dull albums for me to get excited about them now. I'd really, really love to hear a great FF record again but I'm not expecting it. I like Making A Fire, and I think I'd like Cloudspotter if it had more life and punch in the production. Other than that I'm just not into this at all I'm afraid.
Foo Fighters is one of those bands that I think I like more than I actually do. Like I really love their singles, but in general I’ve been bored by a lot of the rest of their music. This was ok to me. For whatever reason I got a similar vibe from this as I did with Green Day’s latest - established band trying to affect a new more old school R&B sound - except I think Green Day’s album was more fun.
I consider myself a Foos skeptic as they are extremely hit or miss for me. This album has a majority of hits though - after my first listen I immediately hit play again which is something I can't say for most of their albums. It's brevity and upbeat nature makes it such a fun listen. The tones on this are incredible, especially the live sounding drums. My favs right now are No Son of Mine, Medicine At Midnight, Holding Poison, Chasing Birds (sooooo Floyd and I love it).
This albums surprised the shit out of me after not being hyped after hearing the singles. Shame and War didn't make sense to me because Dave kept describing the new album as "dancey" and "groovy" and then they introduce the fans to the two least dancey and groovy songs on the album haha. But those songs are better in context after many listens and as they've grown on me. I've been listening to it non-stop for almost two weeks. I haven't done that with a new FF's album since Wasting Light. This is definitely their best and strongest work since Wasting Light, IMO. When Wasting Light came out I thought it was their best work since One by One. Oh, this album made me go back and listen to Them Crooked Vultures. That album still slaps.
Yeah, I fully agree with this. Definitely my favorite thing they’ve put out since Wasting Light, even though it’s obviously pretty different from that album. That’s funny, I also used Father Of All as a comparison point for this recently, except I think the opposite. Imo this is a much more successful attempt at freshening up their sound than what Green Day tried to do on there.
this was fun and feels pretty immediately better than the last two. waiting on a war, chasing birds, and the wonky SRV type guitar on the title track were the only things i didn’t enjoy. no son of mine, holding poison and love dies young all rip.
Pretty casual fan but I'm really enjoying this. Does anyone know which songs for sure Omar Hakim is on? Also, Taylor sounds great as per usual
I'm enjoying this. And I love that in 2021 we got great albums from both Weezer and Foo Fighters, within a week of each other.
I know for sure "Medicine at Midnight" and then I think probably "Holding Poison" and one of the earlier tracks but I can't find the specific credits. Sounds fantastic though
the award for most cynical and worst piece of the week goes to.... The Best Foo Fighters Songs, Ranked
Sometimes I love Hyden’s work. But when he gets cynical like this, I just can’t. Like go write about Springsteen again or something.
Only had a chance to casually listen to this over the weekend but my first impression is that it's a huge step up from C&G. Really love Cloudspotter and Making a Fire. Can't wait to dive in more this week.
