Wish I was digging the new songs as much as y’all are. These songs aren’t moving me. At all. Just seem generic and boring. Band has been pretty stale since Wasting Light, which is my personal favorite. They’re a shell of themselves imo.
This always bums me out when I read about bands not liking albums they've made that I enjoy. I mean, I was. That's okay though, we don't need to have a conversation about it or anything.
HIGHLY recommend checking out the Million Dollar Demos of One By One. Very fun. Also, “Low” is so good.
Yeah the only Concrete and Gold songs I go back to are “Run” and “The Sky Is a Neighborhood”…so the singles lol. By far my least favorite album of theirs.
i have it above sonic highways but that’s it a few cool tracks sonically in the back half. i like the track taylor sang
I don't read a ton of albums anymore, but this one got me. Definitely worth reading to the end. (Also, calls it the best Foos record since the turn of millennium, so there's that.) https://consequence.net/2023/05/foo-fighters-but-here-we-are-review/3/
I loved the show, but the record felt like a missed opportunity. Only a few of the collaborations really added anything to the songs and at least half of it kind of felt like the band on autopilot because Dave was writing on the fly. I still want a proper Dave Grohl/Ben Gibbard where the latter isn’t pushed to the back of the mix.
man this album is shaping up to be something really special. they seem to have tapped in to beautiful stuff.
sonic highways show is incredible, album is an irredeemable stinker they made a song with a joe walsh solo boring
The highs aren't their highest but I also don't think there's a bad song on that record lol. "In the Clear" might come close? Only song I can't remember. The rest are very solid, fun project
in the clear was actually kinda cool bc the preservation hall jazz band. subterranean might be their worst song on any record which sucks bc you'd imagine going in that them recording in seattle again would have produced something cool.
The One by One slander has been weird for decades. Good album, and definitely better than many of the recent records.
I’ve definitely warmed to OBO over the years. I think “Disenchanted Lullaby” and “Burn Away” kind of stink, but a lot of is pretty solid and, as said, are made even better listened to as the demos.
Re-listening to One By One, I remember seeing them twice on that tour. Dave played all of “Tired of You” in Cleveland and then in Pittsburgh, he played about half of it, said it was a boring song and they launched into something else.
