Is it wrong to assume the woman was threatening to go public or something, and this why he felt the need to make an announcement?
Such a bummer. I've looked up to Dave as a drummer my whole life but this makes me re-evaluate listening to his music now. Really sucks.
Without knowing, it strikes me the same as when Letterman was caught having an affair. Someone (not the other woman) blackmailed him and threatened to leak the news for a ton of money. Letterman blew it up by just admitting what had happened on TV. Otherwise, I don't think there's any reason that we should know about this, unless he really just wanted this out there. It truly sucks.
Sure, but I feel like as a culture we've at least attempted to become more emotionally intelligent since #MeToo. This might not be an emotionally abusive situation, but to see someone with Dave's good guy reputation do this to a family is definitely a bummer and I feel like that's a valid response to have
I think because he’s put Violet in the spotlight on live shows, it probably feels worse as a fan? Can’t imagine how difficult that is for his kids + wife, and now with going public too.
It’s valid to be disappointed in Dave for doing a bad thing but to act like you can’t listen to his music anymore because of that is a bit much imo
A lot of people here are Foo Fighters fans and have been fans of and following Dave for decades now. He’s always presented himself as a wholesome good guy. I know they say to not have idols but I think it’s understandable for people who have been following the guy for so long to be a bit disappointed in here, especially considering there are real human beings who have to deal with the effects of this (speaking about his wife and children) If people want to come in here and say “Who cares?” to people being a bit shocked by the news and just processing their reactions…I don’t know, I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss how other people are feeling about this, especially since it seems like most people in here are being rational about the whole thing. Just my two cents.
I'm not of the "who cares" mindset but I also am not going to be one of those people that wags their fingers and acts like I have a ton of moral high ground. While I've never been unfaithful in relationships, it's FAR more common than people realize and I would wager a good percentage of bands (and even people in this thread) have made mistakes in their relationships. Granted...this is a BIG fuck-up for a 55-year-old rock star but, at least from the statement, seems like he will step up and do the best he can for all parties. I definitely feel bad for his daughters, particularly the one who had to deal with the Swiftie shitstorm from earlier in the year.
I learned to stop idolizing people long ago, but man, this is a bummer, especially since his family has been such a focal point of his work the last 5 years.
Same, I don't idolize anyone anymore, but it still doesn't remove from the disappointment. Guy builds up his image as a nice guy, and then admits to doing something shitty... It would be like if there was a video leak of Mister Rodger berating a waiter for getting his order wrong. Sure it would be understandable to be upset with someone messing up your order, but to see someone whose brand was built on being a chill dude? Just awful.
Between this and Linkin Park, not been a good week for people hoping for beacons of shining light in these dark times.
