Idk exactly what I expected out of this album but it exceeded whatever expectations I had

 

I had quite high expectations that were still definitely exceeded.

It is definitely crazy to think that there aren't many bands besides Wye Oak who haven't had an album miss 5 records deep into a career.

This is good shit. I like the variety of tone/energy-level here, which is a bit of a knock on similar synth-pop records. She's got some nice Prince lifts in spots, along with a thousand other great references. Feels somewhat akin to the White Sea record, which is a compliment from me.

 

if you like this listen to wye oak's last record "shriek", this definitely pulls sonically a lot though that stays more in the beach house/st vincent realm while this goes a little more towards the pop end
