List of artists he pays tribute to in that song: Richard Swift John Prine Bill Withers Judee Sill (clearly was a huge influence on Robin early on.. his cover of Crayon Angels is incredible) Elliot Smith David Berman Arthur Russell Curtis Mayfield Jimi Hendrix Nick Drake Otis Redding Chris Bell Tim or Jeff Buckley Marvin Gaye The song makes me super emotional. And he does such a great job weaving these references into the lyrics.
Also I love this. But Crack-Up is still the one for me. Surprised it hasn’t grown on more people, I think it’s their masterpiece.
It was the first thing that popped into my head, but didn’t think it was actually connected to Berman till I read the Pitchfork review.
I need to go back and revisit Crack-Up. I remember really liking it when it came out and listening to it quite a bit, but only parts of it have really stuck with me. This one is definitely more immediate though.
I never came around to Crack-Up, every time I listen to it I feel like I have to TRY really hard to find things I like about it, and by the time I get to the second half I'm exhausted from trying to find enjoyment that it just turns into background music. There's not much to grab onto, nothing I can remember about any of the songs after listening to the album.
that's kinda how I felt about that album. Listening to this one now and I like it but nothing's really doing that much for me.
Loved this Review: Fleet Foxes Are Still Experimental, More Accessible, & Always Beautiful On 'Shore'
Wish I loved this like everyone else...first few listens gave me very little tho sad to say. Will prolly try another time but there will always be the first three records!! Long live FF
Unsure if it was mentioned, but there was a Spotify-exclusive vinyl pressing /1000 gold and smoke. I wish we didn't have to sleuth this stuff out after they're all sold.
yeah this is an all-timer for me.. no doubt and i still don't even think i've really scratched the surface yet
