it's all about attention. instead of dumping it one day, the corporate punx have realized that they can get more eyeballs if they slow walk the process. excited to see if they resurrect anybody from the dead for this thing.
Makes sense from an attention standpoint. I'm hoping for TREOS and some more obscure ones like Mercy Mercedes, Driving East, or Brightwood.
i'm wondering if treos is going to do any more dates other than that roadrunner gig in boston coming up. surprised it hasn't sold out actually... i hope some of the young hardcore bands like koyo, anxious and one step closer get the nod because i'm biased and think they deserve the spotlight. in a way the thirty day rollout is kinda fun... damn those genius corporate punx.
Lyman's explanation is he's trying to give more exposure to the smaller bands. There's a ton of people stupidly bitching about this. There's like 5 bands announced out of a 100+ and they're like this lineup sucks.
Yeah people will always say the lineup sucks regardless, even if they got the Beatles to headline. I trust KL to put together a good lineup, just not into this slow release. I am also probably in the minority in that whenever I go to a festival I literally will sample every band playing before going in hopes of discovering some new music.
DC and Long Beach are sold out already? That’s a big leap of faith for these ticket buyers without a solidified lineup…
same thing happened with the newport folk festival. they do a slow roll out but all the dates are sold out before a single performer is announced. 20 years ago you could snag tickets the day of, now they've got $1,000 memberships to get early access to tickets.
Isn't this is how Warped used to announce their lineups, at least in the early 2010s? They announced ~5 bands a week I actually kinda don't mind it, since it does give you a chance to look each band up a little bit more. I discovered a few bands that way that I probably would've otherwise overlooked
Love it. I like roll outs like this. Bamboozle went overboard with the "games" but if it's consisten that's fun
I remember Kevin rolling out the band lineup like this during the last few years of Warped Tour (probably even earlier). It makes people overanalyze the lineup and the drag-out release just loses steam. Dropping all the artists at once is so much more exciting, like what When We Were Young does (and virtually every other successful festival).
I get both sides of this but the a couple bands a day thing is a bit extreme. Maybe better would have been announcing like 50 percent today and then in next few weeks completing it, leaving a small few "?" bands shortly announced before the festival.
I hope they announce bands like Knocked Loose and Origami Angel who didn't exist when original Warped was a thing. The only chance of keeping it sustainable is bringing in a new generation of punk / angsty youth music fans. Hopefully they also don't announce so many bands that they run out by year #3 (looking at you, When We Were Young Fest).
