Great, you jerks made me listen to Fireworks on shuffle at work, and my co-workers saw me get teary eyed during Hotbed of Life. Gah.
Living With Lions, The Swellers, and I Am The Avalanche also all released classic albums at the same time. Is it me or 2011 was the peak for this wave of pop punk ? As the years pass by, I get more and more nostalgic of that era. I fell out of the genre afterwards, but didn't realize it at the time. I tried getting back into it but I just couldn't find something that pleases me anymore and it frustrated me for a while. Now I accept that I don't connect to newer bands and that's okay. I'm curious to know what will be the future beloved albums either way.
YES! I was at this show and still remember it...it was April 8, 2011 at The Loft in Lansing, MI. Living with Lions and Make Do and Mend opened, then Fireworks played. When TWY closed 1/3 of the crowd was on stage for the last song. Fucking wild night. I miss being able to stage dive like that... Edit: I only know the openers cause I double-checked when I marked down that I went to the concert on my last.fm page haha.
I remember reading somewhere that they planned to but ran out of time during the recording. I'm just super glad the track made the light of day because it knocks me for six every time. I miss this band so much and I hope one day we get more music from them.
Fireworks was the only band from the pop punk scene I ever really loved, but yeah they just never blew up, could be for any number of reasons, they definitely out grew the sound by Oh Common Life but it is not easy to transition to a different audience at that point. I saw them play for a few hundred people on that last tour, same venue I saw them at when I was in high school like six years before. Turnover was opening and now they're playing a much bigger place a few years later, rather be lucky than good I guess, or ideally both. Anyway, they'll probably comeback in ten years with a large fan base than they ever had because these last two records stand up over time and are at least my favorites for whatever this genre is called. Good band.

holy WOW that list. just looked up my EOTY for that and it also included NFG's Radiosurgery and Defeater's ED&SN. 2011 was a great year to be into this type of music.
If that's not the new nostalgia it will be soon, like always there's a bunch of bands releasing stuff this year that's great that'll go underappreciated for another five years
